Best Sub $200 Android Smartphone

Opcode

I have my eye set on buying the Moto G. Are there any other decent unlocked smartphones out there with near stock Android?

I've got a relative with the Moto G, I've used it and I couldn't complain. It works fast enough, has a nice screen, camera is ok, battery lasts decently and it comes with stock android which is fast and great.

I'm not that much into smartphones, but it's hard to actually need anything better than the moto G.

I'm not huge on storage usage, my Sero 7 Pro has 8 GB of internal storage with 3.9 GB still available (owned for about a year now and rooted with a custom rom). The additional MicroSD slot would not be worth the extra $10 for me as I am trying to get the Moto G and a decent charger for $200 flat.

They're available right now at BestBuy for $180.

If you don't need the MicroSD slot, then the 16gb Moto G should be great for you. It has KitKat 4.4.4 now! Motorola is only second to Nexus devices in terms of android updates. Moto X is said to be receiving Android L and it's not far fetched to believe that Moto G might get it too.

Pros:

- latest update on Android

- great screen

- buttery smooth experience

- cheap

- great feel in the hands

- durable, can take splashes of water (personally dropped mine umpteen times)

- decent battery

- limited bloatware (some of the Moto apps are quite useful - Migrate, Assist)

Cons:

- camera, nothing special here

- doesn't multitask well

- flimsy buttons

- non-removable battery
