Did I make the wrong decision?

xXButchXx

Hi guys, at the time I built my computer I had around $2000 to build it and went for a build around $1840 because with taxes it adds up to a little over $2000. After finishing my build (two weeks ago) I couldn't help but looking back and reminiscing if I made the right decisions on the parts (I'm that kind of person). I looked over, and built another system online on pc partpicker and it looks like it crushes my current rig, for a lower price. Keep in mind, I live in Canada so make sure you're on the PCPartpicker canada. Here are the two builds;

My current rig: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/xXButchXx/saved/JhTPxr

The all AMD rig: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/xXButchXx/saved/zVTPxr

I already know that I should've bought the R9 290, but besides that, how badly does the all AMD rig beat mine by? Do you guys think I made the wrong decision?

CPU-wise you're golden, but GPU-wise the 290 outperforms the 770.

EDIT: You could have opted for an i5 and had more money to put into a GPU.

The build #2 has a better GPU but that AMD CPU is just... and I also think that motherboard wouldn't be able to handle that 220W CPU...

I think you made the right decision with the CPU, IMO intel cpu's always beat AMD counterparts. But you should have gotten the D14 and 290 defiantly.  But oh well, forget about it, I certainly made some wrong decisions when building my PC.

two mistakes. the R9 290 for under $ 400 would be better, and you bought a LOCKED CPU with an overclocking motherboard. the 290 crushes the 770. sorry mate.

Yeah I'm not into overclocking and want to keep a cool and quiet system so that's why I chose the locked processor, and I chose that motherboard because I like the features on it and the gold color scheme goes well with the EVGA 770.

Even if you're "not into overclocking" it's better to be safe rather than sorry in the future since you never know when a smart choice can come in handy further down the line when you might need to squeeze some more life out of your cpu till you can buy a new one.

anyway, your build isn't bad or anything. for your monitor size the 770 still kicks ass.

how did I miss that, yeah I think you should have gotten the "k" version @xXButchXx when I was buying my PC a few years ago, I thought I would never overclock, But now look at me, My CPU is sitting at 4.6Ghz. I think most people end up overclocking eventually, the temptation was just too much for me lol.

I thought about this and actually messaged Luke (slick) to see what he thought about it and when I asked if there would be a big performance difference between the 4770 and an overclocked 4770K he said "really depends what you're doing - if you're gaming honestly I seriously doubt it... if you're video editing then you might notice it but it still wont be a big deal imo" so I don't think the performance difference will be large. Plus I also heard that intel "crippled" the 4770k, but I just read that online somewhere...

Its not at all bad quality, mabye the 2014 models are, I wouldn't know, But my 2012 model feels very high quality, all the plastic used feels high quality and it is a heavy, strong feeling keyboard. I also think it looks better than the Ducky. Also the Ducky is plastic and feels just as high quality.

The only thing I prefer the ducky on is the lighting modes, which are miles better than the BW's 3 levels of brightness.

it depends on the game. some games are very CPU demanding and the extra clock speed might not help right now but could save you from an upgrade further down the line. (look at me still rocking my oldschool Sandy-B CPU) if I bought the non k version back then I might have been very tempted to upgrade again around now, but since my CPU still has headroom I'm not even considering it, but yes Haswell CPU's are shitty overclockers so I guess you didn't lose much there.
