play on a low enough resolution, and you could theoretically play bf4 on a potato.

my friend has a FX 6300 and a 7850 w/ a 900p monitor and can run BF4 ultra at 90-140 fps. 1080p, I am thinking 60-80.

EDIT: His whole rig cost $650-700.

I can believe it. 900p is 1.44 megapixels, while 1080p is 2.07 megapixels. massive (44%) increase. I saw a video on youtube of the exact build you mentioned, getting 50-70fps with settings maxed at 1080p, while recording with dxtory.

You need about $900 - $1000 if on air and $1000 - $1500 on water for a "good". My price factors in OS. monitor and peripherals.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

It all depends on what you're doing with it and if you can grab used parts to make up the difference. Out of the box systems will be more expensive of course. I wouldn't budget less than $700 for a *cheap* system. That will get you a basic surfing/general purpose unit with decent name brand components. Nothing big or fast but usable. I just spent just under $1500 cdn and didn't even get a graphics card because I blew my budget. Still, the stuff I DO have is fantastic and I don't regret it for an instant. This thing is good for at least 6 years and I expect longer.

me...I won't use any desktop that cost anything less then $2,000 and I am using three 27 inch monitors. I'm doing a new build next year and will do the new brawdwell $500 hexa-core i7, 16-32gb of DDR4 (depending on price) and either 2 gtx 880's or a Titan II. that will easily break 3 grand.

mine is $1000

personally i would considere all the core parts first

i.e: CPU,Motherboard,PSU,RAM

these things will last long compare to other parts

with some OC they will still perform well after 3 years.

i have budget for GTX770 but i go for GTX760 instead, since the 700 series has been around for 1 year when i bought them.

currently waiting for 800 series and ready to sell my GTX760

with performance and can i say "future proofing" you get what you pay for, you can pay $500 but the likely hood is it will last a year two max before you have to compromise on quality however if you spend alot look at a gtx690 that card is over 2 years old but out performs most if not all cards i got a 780ti so it could hopefully last a few years.

First you have to define "good". Everyone is going to have a different perspective. For me its the ability to play any game, new or old (with a few exceptions (Crysis 3 etc.) at 1080p very high/ultra settings at 60fps+.

IMO this is possible on a budget of about $700-800 USD or about $800 to $1000 CDN. Mine fell right around $900 CDN on the initial build. That included windows.

I spent more on a graphics card than some people will on an entire build because "good" isn't "good enough" for me.

Do you have a good monitor, keyboard and mouse? Just building a PC you need roughly 500-700. If you don't have a good monitor, keyboard and mouse then around 900-1200 I think.

These are just my thoughts though. You can get by for less, but for me that's how much I think should be spent on your main pc.

$800+ is what my current build costs. If money isn't an option, $1,500 (+/-) should do it.
