3's "Feel At Home" Service allows customers to roam abroad with no international charges, now in 16 countries

MrTomnus

The international mobile network, 3, has announced a new set of countries for its Feel At Home service, which allows its customers to make calls, text messages and use their data plan without incurring any additional roaming charges. The service was originally announced in August 2013 and only covered the three countries where the mobile network was based. However they have now added France, Finland, Switzerland and others to the list of eligible countries.

The service only works when contacting the country where your contract is based. So for example, I can only call and text UK numbers and people in the UK without getting charged since my SIM is based on 3's UK network.

"We don't think roaming charges are fair. Which is why we've introduced Feel At Home.

With Feel At Home you can use your allowance to call and text the UK and use your data without paying a penny more. Post an update beside the pool, upload pics from the beach, or gloat about the weather as much as you like. Go on, make your friends back home jealous."

There are a few things you can't do with the service, however - plans with all-you-can-eat data have a limit of 25GB before you will be charged. You can send up to 5000 texts before you will be charged (if your plan contains 5000 texts or higher), use up to 3000 minutes, and some numbers will be charged at international rates (0800, 070 etc), since the service is not designed for prolonged trips abroad. To be honest if you used your phone that much abroad then there wouldn't be much of a point in going on holiday!

I'm glad to see 3 doing this and I hope other carriers get on board. I think 3 is the best mobile network in the UK - I have a SIM only plan with them and pay £13 a month for unlimited data, 5000 texts and 300 minutes, and get 4G coverage at no extra cost. Service is brilliant and they seem like they care about their customers and actually have an idea about how much it should cost to use a mobile network.

Never heard of them

They are still quite a small company compared to other competitors but they have by far the best service. Also they aren't in the US. Very helpful employees, and very reasonable prices.

I'm on 3, they're awesome IMO no data caps and 4G soon.

It's gonna be a few months before I get 4G where I live. Can't wait to see what the HTC One can really do!

I don't have a 4G phone yet, I have a 3 sim but I'm using a Galaxy Nexus, there is some 4G coverage where I am but when it's more dense I'll probably upgrade my phone, I'll have to see what's available by then but the HTC One is definitely a really nice phone.

This is great. I knew choosing 3 over O2 and EE would pay off. Even though their coverage in my town is pretty poor.

EDIT: The 3000 minutes and 5000 texts is pretty funny to me. I get that anyway and I don't even pass 50 a month. Then again, I use Skype to do all my messaging.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

EE is the spawn of Satan.  I can't believe they thought 500MB of data on a 4G plan for £30 is acceptable. And those adverts with Kevin Bacon make me want to punch the TV screen whenever I see it.

That data plan cant be real. It's ludicrous.

I haven't seen the ad as I don't watch TV.

I really hope 3 keep doing stuff like this and don't get greedy like the big networks. It's refreshing to see a company actually try and improve their service rather than intentionally make it worse.
