Applebee's wants you to put your phone away on Tuesdays

For awhile, Applebee's wanted its customers to be using more tech at the dinner table -- embedding tablets throughout its restaurants. Then third-parties caught on and created Applebee's specific social networks. Now the restaurant seems to be backing away from the future of devices-assisted eating, and has filed a trademark application for "No tech Tuesday." In all seriousness, Applebee's wouldn't be the first restaurant to try and keep its customers focused on each other instead of their phones, but a "No tech Tuesday" promotion could make it the first to implement such a policy on a large scale. Still, the gimmick will be a hard sell at restaurants that have already installed the aforementioned table tablets.

Last time I was at Applebee's they played very loud 80s 90s rock and pop music. We could not easily have conversation at our table. They should address stuff like that instead of these new policies.

I like it, if I take someone to dinner it's because I want to spend time with them otherwise I'd be eating alone.

What if you don't want to spend time with them but are forced to go to dinner? What then? Resort to crayons?

I'm afraid one of those assholes who tells people he doesn't want to go in most cases, but on the very rare occasion I'm at dinner with people I dislike at the request of someone I care about or owe I will just bear the boredom and play my part.

 

If I'm on my own I'm on my phone constantly.

I wonder if it is because they want to have the feeling of the "traditional" restaurant eating, when we didn't have technology.

 

Otherwise, I see no point in this policy.

Last time I was on an Applebees was because they had some nice breakfast promos, but other than that fuck them.

Food porn! Yay!!!

 

You have no Idea how much I want to just lift one of those lobster tails to my mouth and push the delicious soft meat into my mouth and feel all the juices ooze everywhere as I bite and begin to chew, and then when I have swallowed that piece of lobster, I will slice softly but surely into that beef with my steak knife and carve a big mouthful of the delicious meat.
