I hate soccer because of the thuggish culture associated with it. So many football fans drink and cause violence unnecessarily, doing things out of petulance like throwing coins at other supporters. Eugh. As with all groups of people there are good and bad; it just seems like a lot of the football supporters are bad - Sexist, homophobic, racist and derogatory chants are not uncommon.

Awe yes the good old soccer vs football.

 

What I love about the rest of the world football (aka soccer to Mericans) is the fact that USA is terrible at it and every country can laugh their rears off at them if not totally spank them at the sport hands down. Even smallish countries can beat the USA although their population base is so small.

 

Anyone growing up in the past 10 years in the USA knows that soccer is being force on the young in order to gain some respect, yet once they get in to high school or college they stop playing it because the other sports is where its at (money). Any decent athlete will go for American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Golf, etc. instead of soccer because there is more money in those sports in the USA hand down. The USA has been trying to gain some traction into soccer for decades, they brought in Pele in his later years and it grew in popularity 0.1%, then they tried it with Beckam same thing soccer fans grew by like 0.1% again. USA needs to give it up and just do what they can do good and call it a day and quit wasting money and time on a sport that has no chance in gaining traction in the USA.

 

All the transplant Euro's, South Americans in the world migrating to the USA can try but its not gaining any popularity other than weekend games by neighborhood clubs.

 

If you don't like it then don't watch it, no one is forcing you to watch it. Yet the rest of the world will watch every second of it and boy the laughs and jokes when the USA loses to those tiny nations is just way too funny

I think almost every sport is boring.

the least boring would be basketball and swimming. 

You know why swimming?

Because as a top level swimmer who is not the best in everything, I have my good strokes and shitty strokes.

In something like the 4IM, I'm kinda with everyone in the fly (but near last), really shitty at back (when everyone basically passes me, but I have become pretty good and can now even pass some), good at breast (I love coming back a couple of bodies to someone who sucks at breast), and damn good at free.

So for the spectators, its like this:

Oh look, he sucks and hes gonna get demolished.

Oh shit, hes coming back from the dead like jesus

I hate most sports. I can only sometimes tolerate American football because it has enough pauses for me to just drift away and keep chatting/drinking/eating/checking forums/looking at porn/younameit in between plays and such.

 

Other than that I watched some Starcraft II tournament with Totalbisquit as the commentator recently, it was fairly entertaining. It helps that most matches were in nice 15 minutes or so matches and the longer ones were pretty action filled for like 45 straight minutes so that was pretty exiting.

 

I think I'm either turning into a massive geek or Korean but I prefer Starcraft to all other regular sports....maybe I can watch the Raiders piss away another season come September since that at least also involves heavy drinking and bbqing but yeah, all those other sports including the world cup? Fuck em.

I been turning it on in the background while I do other things, so I do agree I find it rather hard to be engaged in it for 90 minutes straight.

 

Though, I must say, those football players have one helluva stamina. Running up and down for 90minutes.

 

I forgot where I read this, but the reason football is so popular is because it's the first sport in the world to become accepted. There really isn't any other type of sport that are adopted by both 3rd world countries and developed countries who can perform at the same level.

 

Because of that reason, the psychological effect of football is that it depicts "war" without the killing. That in turn is why football fans are so passionate.

Let's be honest, football is a subjective sport. I personally love watching and playing it (can't say much as I'm from the city of football fanatics - have a guess if you wish).

I think that professional footballers are highly overpaid for what they do, but admittedly a lot of them are outstanding at what they do - besides the majority of the English national team, who are mainly egotistical idiots *cough* Wayne Rooney *cough*

I think 5 a side/futsal can be a lot more entertaining to play, as it is even more fast paced than watching Arjen Robben attacking the Spanish.

I attempted to watch the Super Bowl last year, and it was the most boring sporting event ever. F1 and le tour are so much more interesting IMO. I just stick FIFA on instead, whacked the settings to amateur, half length to 20 minutes and got a higher score than the final Super Bowl score.

Football, unlike American football, is all about the sport, not the show and event, where there can be intense rivalries, but can still draw people together with events like hillsborough, Muamba etc.
