Ok, here's the revised build...

This was tricky. The heart of this build is the 29" LG 2560 x 1080 extra widescreen 75Hz display, which just went up $40 the moment I finished my build, forcing me to re-evaluate. Had to compromise a little and drop from the FX-8320 down to the 6300, but with overclocking it will still perform just fine with the R9-290 to push all those pixels. I like having lots of display real estate for productivity and deep, superior gaming immersion so I didn't want to compromise in that area. Anyways, here it is:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($109.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS7000V(AL)-1-PWM CPU Cooler  ($9.97 @ NCIX US)

The greatest power in the smallest space has arrived. Its dual 240mm radiator will allow the 4670k to OC further than on lower end cooling solutions. The R9 290 is also a well cooled unit that can OC further than a reference card and at lower temperatures as well. Fast ram helps too in certain gaming situations, so I went with some 2400MHz RAM that will look and perform well.

I chose a 9370 because it fit the budget perfectly at $200, a little bit cheaper than the i5-4670K and usually better performing.

hummm...no....just ...no...i tested this myself and a 4.93GHZ 8 core FX is equivalent to about an i5-4440 in gaming...and even an FX-8320 will overclock far enough 95% of the time to battle with those binned pre-overclocked chips.

What i would suggest is replace the CPU for either an FX-8320 or a core i5-4460 and get better GPU solution.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

Please vote for me as this is unbeatable at the price allowed for the build...this 280X crossfire setup will anihilate anything that can be purchased at this price range.

No SSD's or anything fancy that won't boost the FPS...since it's ALL about FPS this week! :P

I picked a 144hz monitor and trust me it will run at 144FPS most of the time on most of the games out there except the broken and the strange ones!

This is the best computer you can build for $1400. At all. It will crush anything short of 4K. These dual R9 280X's are UNBEATABLE.

The GPU choices were not based on fanboyism, but on cost, which these won for sure. These are clocked higher than the other budget R9 280X solution, the XFX, runs cooler AND is cheaper. These are amazing values for the money and will run any game at amazing FPS at 1080p. They also have enough vRAM for modern titles such as Watch_Dogs and Battlefield 4, which can use more than 2GB of VRAM.
The CPU can handle the two cards when overclocked, and the cooler is from Noctua so it's great, and give it overclocking headroom. It's the new Z97 platform so it overclocks like a dream and performs great even in games using less threads.
The dual GPUs were a real steal; those are some really good price:performance. That wasn't even a fanboy decision; they were just really cheap and will crush anything short of 4K.
I got a Gigabyte motherboard because Gigabyte is reliable and had the cheapest Z97 board, and the PSU because this system needs that much wattage and the Rosewill one was cheapest. It has an 80+ Bronze rating and it's from Rosewill so it should be reliable.
The hard drive was the cheapest 1TB 7200RPM hard drive. That's the only reason I chose it.
The monitor was an obvious choice for it's price point.
With the case that we're choosing and the amount of heat this system is going to make, we need extra cooling to actually make it not overheat. Cooler Master makes excellent fans for a very low cost and these will make sure your precious money doesn't go to waste by overheating and killing itself.

Afterwards, we're left with $1399.88 price. Not bad. Go buy some candy with that extra 12c or save up for college or something lol.

Lol. I think I misunderstood the point of this week's build-off. I though we simply had to incorporate a monitor with >60Hz (which I did). Didn't realize we were going for absolute highest frame rates.

Oh well. Still like my 29" super-widescreen display, SSD and R9-290. ;)
