Few Questions - Answers or Recommendations much appreciated!

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

1. USB adapters tend to suck. End of story.

2. Hell yes.

3. Yes.

4. As long as you don't have an OEM copy (from Dell, HP, etc.) just call up Microsoft if it says that your key is already used and tell then you just had to do a hardware swap.

Hey all, I have a few questions, if you can answer one or all of them i would much appreciate it.

1- Best Wireless Adapter? I have a PCI-E wireless adapter, but I am going Mini-ITX next year and as you all know Mini ITX mb's only have 1 PCI-e. Is there a good USB adapter out there, preferably under $35? Obviously Ethernet is the best option, but that is near impossible to where my computer is.

2 - Is a upgraded CPU cooler worth it? You have probably read through my CPU cooling oriented topics over the past few days, but I am simply wondering if it is even worth the 50-60 dollars over the stock included one?

3 - Are you able to overclock with a decent air cooler?

4 - If I change my parts, do I need a reinstall, regarding serial numbers? I know that a reinstall is a good idea when changing some parts, but I am going from an AMD FX-6300, and a 7790 to a GTX 8xx series and an Intel i5-5xxx (Broadwell). I have heard once that if you change hardware you need to buy the product key again. True or false? Will I need to buy Windows again?.

Thank you very much for your answers all, much appreciated.

MiniITX should usually have wireless. If not, get one that does.

If you get a Corsair 250D you can use a H100i instead of air cooling

You will need to buy windows again for a new motherboard

No problem. I freaking hate USB wireless adapters. I hate USB Bluetooth adapters, for that matter.

Ok Thanks. I bought from a local computer store, ill install then contact them about the hardware swap. I am most likely getting the new Corsair Graphite 380T, and I think i might go for either Coolermaster, Noctua or NZXT for a CPU Cooler. But is the built in wireless on MiniITX any good (good enough for online gaming and video streaming?) Thanks again!

Yo whats up.

1. this is decent, but honestly Ethernet is way better:

2. Yes, most of the time at least.

3. Yep, maybe not extreme oc's though (depends on the cooler)

4. You might, not really sure. i have currently been wondering the same thing.

Hope all of that helps.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

What motherboard are you thinking of getting? Pretty much all of the implementations are rather good, some better than others. I personally like ASUS boards more, since they seem to be more reliable for me.

I present to you one ASUS board and two Gigabyte boards.

There will probably be more ROG ASUS mITX boards later, but for now those are the only 3 ASUS and Gigabyte Z97 boards that are available.

No problem. When the ROG ones do come out, they will look really good (knowing ASUS and ROG).

2 & 3, come to Air cooling section to find out more ;) But basicly if you want cooler temps and lower noise level, aftermarket cooler is obvious choise. If you don't care about those two you don't need better cooler. Even 212 which is considered a budget cooler can do good clocks.
