The Fedora Slimbook is the first Slimbook laptop that offers pre-installed Fedora software, combining Slimbook’s signature functional and stylish aesthetics with Fedora’s commitment to open source principles and focus on cutting-edge Linux distributions. The partnership between the Fedora Project and Slimbook exemplifies Fedora’s commitment to increasing the number of systems with pre-installed Linux and reducing barriers to entry for open source adoption.

In celebration of open source and the crucial role it plays in driving a more inclusive digital future, 3% of the revenue from each Fedora Slimbook ultrabook sale will be donated to the GNOME Foundation, a global non-profit committed to building a diverse and sustainable computing ecosystem.

Matthew Miller, Fedora Project Leader, Manager and Distinguished Engineer at Red Hat stated: “Installing Linux distributions can be a daunting task and can stand in the way of individuals adopting open source software. The collaboration between Fedora Project and Slimbook has removed this hurdle by providing users with hardware featuring pre-installed Fedora software. Red Hat is excited to see open source communities and hardware vendors working together to make open source software more accessible.”

My thoughts

This follows the partnership with Lenovo in 2020 to launch ThinkPads preloaded with Fedora. Unlike the Lenovo Fedora Edition ThinkPads, the Fedora Slimbook is fully co-branded and includes dedicated support for the software and hardware. Fedora is clearly aiming to broaden its user base and make its offerings more accessible to the general audience.

very nice, very slim, unfortunately completely botched by going with nVidia instead of AMD, and a 3050 Ti at that... why?

Apparently you can request a custom layout (which theoretically could be asking for the ANSI layout). I don't know why it's only ISO layouts, though.

Often I read Fedora I read it as Foodora first time...

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”
