Should I upgrade from 3070ti to 4060ti?

Hear me out. So I bought a 3070ti a few months ago and now when I was seeing a comparison online between the two I saw that the 4060ti performs a little bit less than the 3070ti but the 4060ti has significantly less power consumption. Like I am very impressed with such a low power consumption of the 4060ti so I want to know if is it worth shifting from 3070ti to 4060ti. Thanks.

If your super power limited, the 4xxx cards are much more efficient, but its probably not worth it cost wise, gonna be hassle to buy + sell the old unit.

 

I'd only do this if your running off solar or something where power is super limited. And in that case a laptop is much more power efficient than the desktop parts.

@Mahbub Difference in power consumption is hardly worth splurging on an entirely new GPU, especially for no gain.

depends. Are you troubled by your current cards power consumption. If it is a side-grade, why spend the money unless something is seriously nagging you about your current card?

i wouldn't change to the 4060ti solely on based on power consumption. Unless you are gaming 24/7 365 days a year, i don't see how you would get that money back.

 

You already have the power supply needed to drive your 3070ti, keep it.

Word. If you were mining or something the power consumption difference would be noticeable but merely playing a few hours a day for a year? Not worth it.

 

Even discussions of AMD 7000 series vs Nvidia's 40 series at a realistic use case in a country where price of electricity is upper mid compared to worldwide, a year I had like a worst case difference of £4~. Nvidia only started saving money in the 12th year compared to going with AMD offset by the premium that Nvidia charges.

If power consumption beats the loss in performance, then yes?

 

What you're asking is not quantified in anyway in your post, so how do we even give our opinions on what YOU would like?

What is?  using too much power,  or buying a new unit?

No. This is silly. Even if you live in a place with expensive electricity, the difference in your bills is going to be very marginal.

buying a new card "to save power" is of course. 

 

same reason why teslas are a massive environmental problem. 

 

production of these things cost way more energy than they will ever be able to save...

No just no, even 4080 no, maybe 4090 in the future when it gets cheaper? that's assuming it gets cheaper.

or wait for next gen till 4090 performance might be found in lower tier cards, just no. 3060ti is basically a 3070, which is a good amount slower than 3080.
the only real upgrade would be 4070ti or 4080 or 4090 and between these three 4090 seems to have the best value imo
