I feel a little dumb buying a 3080ti a year ago.

Toolhead1987

I thought I struck gold when I walked in to BestBuy last Summer and they had a single MSI 3080ti Gaming X Trio in stock.
$1750 plus taxes $1950 irrc), I sold my 2080ti while I was in Germany for 1000 ($1200) euro so it wasn't a complete loss...
but looking at BestBuy now they have 3080ti's for $929.
Kill me.

edit: sorry it was a 2080ti I sold got my gpus mixed up**

It happens. Its why i always said unless you had to buy something, it will never be worth it to over pay that much for a GPU like that. There will always be regret, but at least youve used it right?

Look at it this way, you were in a position to enjoy that delicious 3080Ti performance for a year while pleps like us were suffered with whatever we had. So in that sense, it wasn't so bad. It gave you enjoyment, that's all it really matters.

Don't feel like that.

You've spent around $750 for a 3080ti which is still a good deal even today + you've been enjoying it for a year now.

I've bought a RTX 3060ti for 760eur in last November.

But I've sold my GTX 1080 ti from 2017 for 600eur so a 160eur upgrade.

the next time you upgrade it'll all go away, plus you sold your old card at a premium 😄

yeah that's true.
I have been happy with the card itself.
I use it with a LG C1 48" games really look amazing.
The only problem is I almost exclusively play War Thunder lol.
in all my years I just never saw GPU prices decline within a single generation like that.
I think I sold my 1080ti for $300 the week I got my 2080ti and that already felt like a rip-off.

I bought the same card for the same price.

Now the card is in my game server and was replaced with a 3090 Gaming X Trio.

It is a bit of a waist but I sold all my 10 series cards that usually do those types of jobs.

I bought mine to use with a LG OLED as well. Needed that 4k 120hz goodness.

My 3x 1080 tis sold for about $485 each at the end of last year. One of my 2080 tis went as well for &1,100.

It is a market so it is best to sell high and buy low.

I still have two 2080 tis that did not get replaced before the price drop so they will sit in their boxes for now.

It didn't decline they were artificially inflated.  We are just now at MSRP maybe a tiny bit lower with a few cards.  I got my 3080 about a month after launch it was 784, about $300 after selling off the old card.  Made about 1700 off of it too...

I bought a 3060 last year for the price of a 3070ti. Sold it earlier this year for the price of a 3060ti. Just bought a 3070 at a much more acceptable mark up than the 3060 (ALMOST MSRP! WOOHOO! lol)

my build last year was around $3500 all in all (bells n whistles and full RGB puke). My new build I just put together cost less than half of the old one but blows it out of the water in terms of performance (and it still looks pretty good all things considered).

Moral of the story: Stop being concerned about what it SHOULD cost and focus more on what you're willing to pay for what you want. We don't live in "Should Land."  Inflation is merciless and there's no way in hell we'll be going back to the old price ranges. Just roll with the punches.

Just explained regardless of income how so many are so broke...  The only time not to worry about cost is if your going to profit off of the spend.

Folks are broke because they're spending money they shouldn't be spending. A high end PC is not a requirement; its a luxury. MSRP isn't going back to pre-COVID days. We'll be settling at a higher normal. What I'm saying is if you're in the market for a custom built high end PC, you've got money dedicated to spend on that luxury so you shouldn't be breaking yourself for an extra like that but if you have the money set aside to treat yourself, it should come down to what YOU'RE willing to pay because we're still hanging out in inflation hell and one of the worst economic times in history. If you want it, and its worth a little mark up to you, then get it. If the mark up is a deal breaker; then don't. If you can't afford to blow a bunch of money on a high end PC, then you should focus your attention on taking care of business rather than the latest tech hardware.

There was a lot more going on that just the inflation.  A $699 card going for $2000 is obviously WAY over its value.  Obviously if its 1% of what you have sure splurge but outside of that small amounts add up quickly a $30k car could cost you millions.

That one is because of the crypto scalpers. And the chip shortage, which is still technically a thing, has contributed as well.

Because msrp doesn't equal cost to manufacture. They can sell it for what they think the market will pay. You are proof that they succeeded.

Also msrp is not set in stone like so many people believe. It can change and often does depending on many factors.

I get that, but damn near every tech media outlet said DO NOT BUY. But you went against the advice. Can really only blame yourself for that.
