I'll put it this way... You get what you pay for. Some things are best to not skimp on and others don't really matter at all.

Some 5 years ago I would have recommended about 1/3 of budget for GPU on a gaming PC, but with the current prices thats completely out the window.

 

Also it of course completely depends on what the use-case are

In current times? I would state that 7/8 off the budget should be spent on the gpu. :)

It really varies from budget to budget, but I see most people say anywhere from 50-70% of your budget should be allocated to your GPU and never cheap out on a case/psu

For gaming you don't really need that level of cpu, a 5600X or i5 12400-12600 would be plenty. So I would say 10-15% CPU and maybe 50% GPU

things to consider...

 

good PSU can last years and multiple builds ( i have a 1000 watt BFG PSU from like 2007 that i still use today)

 

pick out what case you want - consider the size and airflow

 

after that its kinda personal choice

Value of a component is not a linear relationship between price and performance. If something is too low tier, you might as well not bother. Going too far the other way may not get you value. Decide on your performance target and other factors, and see what it takes to get it. If you can't meet that in a budget, you either have to find the extra $ or lower your expectations.

Because of how varied PC builds can be I don't think there is a set ratio on parts. I think you should prioritize a good power supply, given the fact that a bad one can possibly damage components or cause a premature death to them. Other than that it really depends on the performance you are looking for. If you need a Graphics Card leave a good chunk of the budget for that if you need anything half decent.

huh. 3600 €300, 3070 €700 

 

 

and the cpu is honestly a bit weak nowadays and its not even that old, Id say 40/60 therefore.

 

And yeah, i know newer cpus should perform a bit better, but probably cost more/same too.

I think that is a bad way to design a new PC since it ignores the long-term needs and usage. 

 

for example, my only heavy use is handbrake (besides watching 4K YT, which seems to require at least 4 cores) and I keep case/PSU for many years and hardware cycles. So my dGPU will be 0% and the case/PSU will be relatively high %. For a gamer who replaces the whole PC inc. PSU/case every 3 years, the % will be completely different. Also someone storing tons of videos will spend a much higher % on SSD than a regular user. then what is your tolerance to "live with" some shortcoming.

Exactly. Having a "ratio" or price in mind is the wrong way to go about it imo. Think about what you want to use the PC for, then look up real world benchmarks to see if the upgrade will improve your experience in a meaningful way.
