Dust filters on rear exhaust fan possible ?

Mikey89

Why would you want to filter your exhaust?

To answer your question, yes, just like any other filter will slow the flow of air. It is an obstruction after all.

So how much would it increase CPU and GPU temps ?

Also if i put at the PSU and on the middle of the case where there are other wholes present ?

Depends on your fans, your case, your ambient... try it and let us know 🙂

So i have the current PC case : Cooler Master Masterbox MB511 RGB

https://www.pcgarage.ro/carcase/cooler-master/cooler-master-masterbox-mb511-rgb/

Just need to know, would there be any downside to my temps if i would put dust filters on the back side of the case where the exhaust fan is where there are other wholes present ?

Dust filters are to stop dust getting INTO a case... any exhaust/heat needs to be got rid of as fast as practically possible... so filtering is counter-productive to that.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Take a look at that link, there is a photo there with the case from the back completely.

You don't need filters though 🙂

Just sweep your floor, vacuum your carpet, be tidy 😄

Not that I am calling you a slob.. also get your case off the floor..

I am a slob, but I have a datavac.. and no filters 🤘

But based on the PC case from the link, if i'd put filters on most wholes, would it increase temps by a lot ?

Simple answer - YES...

If you want no dust to build up on a PC, do not use one - dust build up WILL happen.

You cannot predict it.

No one can answer this. Best we can guess is probably not much, but it depends on the weather & how much load the PC's under, with more of an increase as you boost the internal temp because there's less hot air allowed to escape efficiently.

I've never heard of anyone putting filters on a rear fan used as an exhaust. At first I thought you were going to say you were using the rear fan as in intake, so then it'd make more sense to ask this question, but if it's an exhaust, this makes no sense.

As for the other holes at the rear of the case, i've seen people block these completely with the theory that it'd help create a wind-tunnel effect with air just entering & exiting where fans are mounted, but i'm not sure it makes much of a difference.

I am just interested in trying to put some mesh filters on the wholes at the back without increasing temps by a lot.

If it can be done, i would love to know how. 🙂

the test of an clogged aio never clean the difference after cleaning it was about 5 degrees but that was a rad and not a dust filter tested and fillers come in all sizes. some block up to 80% of the air...

not only that but dust on a dust filter can help filter more dust...so...

You realise though, that essentially, you're going to trap dust inside your case & create a build-up of dust on that rear exhaust fan, hence reducing it's efficiency/longevity & noise levels over time.

With dremel, drill, double tape/magnetic tape, and/or duct tape.
Almost any fan filter mod is possible, even if you want to mount it for psu exhaust.

Maybe he's making his own themed build. Who knows.
I'm guessing he's going to switch what supposed to be exhaust section to become intake.
Unless the theme name really is "Dust Storm".

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

Maybe, but I can only go off information provided & thus far, the OP hasn't mentioned they're intending to use it as an intake.

Why?

So you think it will be a 10-15 degree temp increase ?
