Not sure if this was a showcase or a troll video on MSI's part, NOPE not a troll (well it is) Alex confirmed this is a showcase at 7:35. If it is truly a showcase once again LTT failed to state so. Also Linus has once again failed his promise to state how many modules are on the ram sticks, FYI the 16GB units he shoved in to the second laptop are 4GB (I'm guessing) single sided modules

You can be a gamer who isn't any of those things, so you could be a gamer, but yes sadly Steam is a requirement now, unless you want to look like a plebeian console gamer (but still a gamer).

You are not a gamer if you play microtransaction hellhole games exclusively (esp on mobile, but could be a gamer if you don't patronize the microtransaction part of it or if the game in question doesn't have it, aka bought), and you are most defiantly not a gamer if you have to ask, that last point is why Linus is not a gamer.

sorry to nit pick here, but in the video @6.25 you say, "Okay that is a lot of wide open ventilation on the bottom hey " uu sorry WTF ?! Those intake fans look like the are covered up from what i can tell. MSI had a laptop about a year a ago that had overheating problems, in witch TechteamGB rightfully point that out, and then msi tried to "pay for his time " if he did publish the video.

 

The reason i'm point all of this out is becas. It looks like MSI did learn from their mistakes (going off what i can see in the showcase and what the have on the website), and i also find it in pore taste that you guys as a challenge liquid metal the CPU (sort of "fixing their mistake"). And not having a before and after (temps)

What do you mean? Right at the start of the video it says it's sponsored by MSI and also says so in the description.

Well that was a waste of time.

 

We have NO actual benchmark results, NO thermal performance, NO battery performance. Absolutely NO useful information for an ACTUAL customer was in that video. That's from someone that's using an MSI Alpha 15 to send this message. What a crap video.

That would be a review. Sponsored videos are not reviews and will usually never have any of those items since those are items used in reviews. Sponsored content like this usually are focused around the talking points provided by the sponsor regarding the product they are showcasing in the spot and not objective 3rd party testing to validate or rebuke manufacture claims.

Right but every showcase video in the past has always had "Showcase" in their title till this and the last one, even the last showcase eventually got the word showcase added to it. Technically all LTT videos are sponsored by at least one company, but this is basically one giant ad for MSI and should be labeled as such as it has been in the past. 

 

There are people who wouldn't want to click on a full video ad and watch it, LTT isn't Ryan Reynolds after all 🤣

If you ask me this is a deceptive move on LTTs end just to get their view count up, because once people see it's a full video ad they'll just click away whereas if it said showcase they wouldn't have clicked on it at all.

They typically edit their titles a few days after release to be more specific about the video content. They decided to use more "clickbaity" titles right at the release because it helps their channels grow, then edit it later so it becomes more "searchable".

 

I'm not saying i like the approach or support it though.

 

Also, LTT clearly stated in the past that a sponsored video is never a review. That's because sponsoring typically includes rules as to what is covered and how it is covered. Keep in mind that sending out review samples is not the same as straight up sponsoring the content. (Altough LG seemed to have forgotten that recently)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

This should've just been a short circuit as it was really just a short and very subjective summary of each laptop.

Never watched that video as i was already disgusted by the title. But the sarcasm in the title is very obvious imo.

I wasn't saying it was a review, but how many clicks do you think thought it was? Hundreds? Thousands? What about in a weeks time? I doubt the word sponsored or showcase would harm their clickbait title that much, people who want to watch a video based on the title will watch it anyways but people who were looking for a review or knew it was a showcase might never have clicked on it in the first place. That's why it's important for LTT to always state it as sponsored/showcase.

 

Also who later would want to watch a stupid ad vs an actual review once they are available? This video basically becomes useless once reviews come out, so the whole searchable point becomes null and void unless LTT wants to start disguising ads as reviews now, equally the number of rewatches of this video to watch Linus "suffer" is minimal as there are far better videos out there. So the whole renaming logic for a sponsored video without stating so in the title esp one that quickly becomes dated fast makes absolutely no sense, I doubt stating showcase or sponsored kills their "searchability" as well.

 

Why should I continue to watch their videos if the next one could be a x minute long ad again? If you ask me this does more harm to them (more specifically their sponsors) than good as it removes the click now mentality of clickbait, or people who watch most videos just because.

That's exactly why i watch less and less videos of LTT. I don't click on thumbnails or titles that say nothing about a video. That's why i didn't watch the "totally unbiased review". Because of that i might miss some videos that i would have been interested in but so be it. So like you said, with people like me they actually lose views. But i bet for everyone who thinks like me there are hundreds of people who click on it because they want to find out what it's about. That's the whole point of clickbait.

 

I merely repeated what Linus said in some WAN show (idk remember which one it was) about their titles (and thumbnails for that matter) getting worse with each video. I never said that i support what they do, nor was i trying to defend it.

That one doesn't sound like sarcasm, but a genuine review to me.

 

However the "totally unbiased review" in combination with a missing product name makes it sound like sarcasm to me.

Wasn't this video about their mouspads or something else from LTTstore? (In that case it has to be sarcasm because there is no way you can review your own product unbiased)

I clicked on the video merely to watch Linus learn he wasn't a real gamer, and I was disappointed in that aspect as well... Truth be told that video wasn't that bad it kind of showed their headaches from idea to production. Yea, but it's overall bad for business to lose views, losing one view because it's sponsored is one thing but to lose basically all views from that user because you failed to mark it as such is a poor business decision.

 

Yea, I think the real reason why they are heavy on the clickbait is because LTT as a whole would crumble under it's own weight as without views their sponsors would dry up and since LTT is basically the bread and butter for all channels... Looking at MKBHD views vs LTTs views (not all channels just main ones) you can tell who is winning overall in views to subscribers, I would love to see the average view to subscriber ratio between the 2 channels to find out which one holds the better viewer retention. The formula for Tech Linked and Short Circuit are clearly winners based on those numbers, but that could be due to them being basically what LTT used to be.

 

Simply put if I was a LTT sponsor I would be more willing to put my money in SC or TL vs an LTT video as I'm sure the dropout rate is much lower as well. Also like to point out with us talking about LTTs "decisions" in video production values instead of the product or topic the video is about doesn't look good either for the product, sponsor or LTT 🤦‍♀️ One sense I hope MSI is reading this topic 😂

If LTT is barely holding on and has to 100% rely on clickbait to keep the doors open that should be a massive wakeup call. I also highly doubt this as Linus is spending cash wherever he pleases

I never said they are barely holding on now did I? I said "LTT as a whole would crumble under it's own weight", aka employees, rent etc if reliable viewers and therefore sponsors dried up.

 

Why fix what doesn't look broken but is? To LTT everything might look fine because when they converted over to clickbait they saw an increase in views, but in reality they could be at a tipping point. Just because the CEO is blowing cash left right and center in the company and/or in personal life doesn't mean the company is sustainable (aka long lasting), for all we know (unlikely) Linus could be pull out as much money as possible before it all collapses while spending money within the company making it look like things are going good to everyone in and out of the company. Close your eyes and point in a general direction and you'll likely find a company that looked/s profitable but went/will go bankrupt because they refused to change or fix a flaw in their practices.

 

I would say something is wrong when you have nearly 14 Million subscribers and only 1/14-1/28th of them convert into views, and only reason why I say something is wrong is because unlike others they push sponsors 2 times per video, 500-900K views is great and would mean tons of money for a small crew with community support and maybe the odd/single ad (like HWU/GN), but there is something clearly wrong with their formula if they only peak under 1 million frequently while having a large crew and heavily rely on ads. Plus we can't even compare LTT to other tech channels because of the large employee base and ad reliance, we should compare them to channels like GMM and GT who have similar subscribers and crew (LTT likely has more people than them combined) but lack heavy ads, and they typically do better in views. LTT maybe the most popular general tech channel out there, but it's far from the good one... The community here is many times better than the main channel is.

 

This was in 2017 when he started to think about hiring.

 

The real question isn't is LTT going to die as a channel or not, they could very well survive indefinitely off of clickbait and bad choices, I won't be viewing that 💩, but it's possible. The real question is where is the PNR for them and have they already surpassed it? PNR meaning they can't stop and turn back else they die as a channel, doesn't mean they will die if they continue as well.
