How do you guys know which DP & HDMI version older card has?

frozensun

I have 2 older video cards both having HDMI and DP but dunno what version is it

How do I know so I could get 144 fps if it's possible?

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

If you know the name of the GPUs, it would be helpful. If you don't know what GPUs they are, pictures of the front, ports, and back should help us identify them

Googling. Took a bit but was able to locate them. I checked a variety of 2xx and 3xx series and most were HDMI 1.4a & DP 1.2 and I was able to verify these two also were.

r9 270 uses the gpu chip codename "Curacao" : https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r9-270.c2458

r9 390 uses the bigger chip codename "Grenada" : https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r9-390.c2664

The Curacao chip was launched in 2013, the Grenada chip was launched in 2015 ... if they launched them at those years, they were probably developed 1-2 years before.

Definition of HDMI versions | PCMag

HDMI 1.4a was launched in 2009, HDMI 2.0 was launched in 2013, hdmi 2.0a in 2015

So the r9 270 missed the board, and stuck with hdmi 1.4   .... R9 390 could have had hdmi 2.0 but they stuck with hdmi 1.4

DisplayPort - Wikipedia

image.png.30057787053915da5e0b90136ce815cf.png

So being cards released in 2013,  respectively 2015 it makes sense to support displayport 1.2

R9 390 could have been displayport 1.3 but if you look at what's been added to displayport 1.3, it didn't make sense for that card.

In general, it's faster to just google... ex if you google  "r9 270 review" or "r9 390 review" and skim the review text, you'll find them saying hdmi 1.4  or displayport 1.2

Thank you.

But in any case it's always better to connect them via DP to have 144 fps.

Just too bad my monitor has only one DP port.

DP 1.2 supports 144Hz at 1440p so that would be enough to me.

Too bad then neither of the cards support HDMI 2.0.
