Do I have Dyslexia?

Guest

I'm currently 16 years old and recently over the past 2 years I have started to develop problems reading. Every time I read I usually have to read it a couple times to get it right. I get words and letters mixed up a lot. Also when I write I forget to put letters in words sometimes. I'd appreciate your input, thanks!

that happens with my sister and she has dyslexia. so maybe. a forum shouldnt be your go to source for this. if your really worried about this talk to your parents and see if you can get tested.

if you are reading this you are wasting valuable time and should maybe rethink your life choices.

That sounds like it cost money...

probably, but honestly don't think you have determine whether you have dyslexia or not by what people say on the internet. maybe search around for on-line tests or something. but i would honest recommend getting tested. after my sister was diagnosed the school was able to help cater to her needs cause of the dyslexia.

if you are reading this you are wasting valuable time and should maybe rethink your life choices.

You need to see a psychiatrist. Only he/she will know if you have it or not.

I have dyslexia...  it might or might not be dyslexia, you might be very tired or for all you know it might be dyslexia.  I think the best way to see if you have Dyslexia is by knowing the way you think, I never thought I had dyslexia, turned out all the time I was thinking in a totally different way to everyone else.  Dyslexia if anything, is a good thing.  If you have got it be loud and proud, I started being homeschooled last year because the teachers treated me like garbage...  I went from knowing nothing, to knowing more than any of my friends!

If you think you have Dyslexia tell your mom, tell your dad, tell your teachers and ask them to sort it out.  If you do have Dyslexia you'll be amazed at how far you'll leap ahead if you get a chance to.

Don't get yourself checked if it is going to cost yourself or your family money. There isn't a lot a they will be able to do except tell you whether you have it or not. your best bet is to read up on what has helped other people in a similar situation as you and see what helps them.

I'm no doctor, but a couple of those things plague me too. I'll just skip letters in works while writing, and stuff like that.

Unfortunately, there is no 'cure' for this, other than maybe some meditation/yoga to let some of your stress out. I find that sometimes, I'm just doing it because I'm nervous. Try to drink more water (like, a LOT), as not having enough water damages every part of your body, especially your brain, which will start to strain itself if you're dehydrated. I know tons of people who drink soda or juice all day; that's terrible for you. Water, and pure water only is what you need most of. Just because it's fruit juice, doesn't mean it can be your main source of liquid! I try to go 2-3 of my Colnago water bottles a day, and then a glass before I go to sleep.

Haha jokes aside, learning straight from books/notes was one of my weakness too. I was one of the worst student (bottom 5 academic wise) during my 5 years boarding high school. Had to rely on tuition classes just to keep up with the basics. Somehow I managed to finish school with almost flying colour. School was quite a hard time for me too, much more with all the bullying. I wish you all the best with your studies.

If it started suddenly then no. Dyslexia is not something that happens out of the blue. Its something you are born with. Most people with dyslexia CAN improve to a point where it doesn't affect them that much. But not all.

If you had some odd rash on your penis would you be showing a tech forum pictures and asking for a diagnosis? Seriously people, a learning disability, mental disorder or physical ailment is not something that can be definitively diagnosed without an actual consult. Sorry to be so testy but people diagnosing themselves or others over the internet is a real annoyance of mine.

You should look into getting an appointment with an educational psychologist to get assessed.

First off, you and many of the people in this thread are posting symptoms that can easily be explained by stress, lack of sleep or even cancer of the brain. Now I don't want to alarm anyone, but that last one is a little bit more dangerous than it sounds.  Tumors account for quite a lot of unexpected growths in the brain that are cancerous, in fact it accounts for nearly all of them.

Seriously, If you were dyslexic there is a good chance you would have had trouble learning to read also, but if you are concerned then go see a psychologist, behavioral optometrist, or even your GP.  It's hardly going to kill you to do some research of your own on dyslexia, so spend some time googling.  IF you are still worried that you need help of some type then see the above specialists (the ones I listed not the posts above, although I do believe beebskadoo is quite the specialist when it cums to tongue twisters :P  ).

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
