New USB 3.0 form factor

Lightning

Looks terrible... It'll be super fragile, and just as bad as Micro USB is now... :(

-Edit: Linus totally agreed with me.

Saw the concept, I'm expecting an apple lawsuit if that concept became the final design, looks a lot like thunderbolt, they should make it more square looking

edit: forget what I said about being similar, I had to be on something to say that :S

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Apple could sue away anyways, Intel owns Thunderbolt entirely.

It's probably a good thing, as I see the standard USB 3.0 port is becoming a limiting factor on the super slim ultrabooks these days

It looks like the C connector still has that little tiny prong inside the port that could snap off and make it completely unusable. But at least it's reversible.

I actually hate USB in all its forms (except maybe B which should be on all larger devices imo), its designed to keep cost down, unfortunately it's the manufacturers who get most of the benefits not the consumers.

Why can't cables make use of magnets? No more plugging things in and snapping connectors and stress on said connectors.

How about magnets?

Come on science. Magnets.

Hmm...  As ugly as the old 3.0 connector was, at least it was backwards compatible with the micro USB connector (by only plugging into half the port).

Apple power cables

Yeah.  Unfortunately, Apple patented the whole concept of magnetic power connectors, so we won't be seeing those anywhere other than on Apple products.

Phones are getting bigger so in all likelyhood bigger more durable connectors are just around the corner.
That said I have never broken a micro usb cable and I'm sure linus is just dying for an lga/dvi-i sized connector...screws and all
If phones came with the micro-b type AND the mini HDMI AND micro-ethernet too I'd be fine with that...
why? because wireless sucks!!!!
There's plenty of realestate left on modern phones so why not use it, having 2 SDcard slots (1 above one another) would be cool also, I/O being the slowest part on phones these days and 16gb microsd cards only costing £5 each id happy have a 32 or 64gb raid0 on my phone.
