Bizarre Aliexpress Ryzen 3 5300g

I was wandering ebay trying to find a good deal for a friend who's tryna get into Pc gaming, So i was checking out Ryzen 3 xxxxG, So that he could do some gaming on the cheap while the graphics card shortage dies out.
And the idea of an Engineering sample came to my mind, Like, Maybe, Just maybe he could get a good Bang for the buck cpu with an APU, I wasn't lucky with Ebay so i decided to check on aliexpress and found this :

https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002619084421.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.76f57928axGnp9&algo_pvid=f0e494ea-8233-41c4-b4e9-8109db7195de&algo_expid=f0e494ea-8233-41c4-b4e9-8109db7195de-0&btsid=0bb47a2216217756467907156eec67&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

My question is, Is it any good? Is it worth the hassle ? and if it is, Is it worth the price?

(Sorry for bad english)

Engineering Samples usually are not for resale and also tend to have significantly lower clocks than retail imo.

Risky endeavour in any case. If you dare to gamble you could give feedback on - is it worth it?

The shop does have mostly positive feedback.

It's not an engineering sample, but an OEM chip: https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-3-5300g

I guess that the IHS is not soldered, but has thermal paste instead.

The item in question has ENG Sample on the image in the webshop. I know that 5000G series are out for OEMs.

I'm waiting for the 5700G myself.

I believe it's not an official 5300G, it's being called that as some sort of comparison or nickname. You'd see something similar with old xeon processors, sellers compare them to i7 models to boost sales.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

clear as day, it has the marking.

It's a gamble, you can call it alpha or beta cpu.

You're lucky to get a pre release copy, as close as retail.

If not you're screwed.

Yeah, it's not like scammed or anything.

The sellers have good reputation, they probably tested it before shipping.

ES cpu usually sell a lot lower if it's from a bad batch.

He can sell it back in ebay, and someone will snatch it in no time, i'm pretty sure.

The concern for me would be driver support - I would not be surprised if newer drivers/BIOS updates may not like an engineering sample, don't work or flat out state that the CPU is not supported. And the graphics driver would probably be the biggest concern, in that it might flat out state that it's unsupported. The validation of an OEM or retail sold CPU is worth the extra over an engineering sample that is likely not supported.

For a cheap build maybe go Intel? The whole stack has an iGPU and while they're not great, they are at least readily available and for pre-2010 games I doubt you'll have a problem. Or that's certainly the case from personal experience with my 10700K.

Hi. I am a new user of this forum because I wanted to comment on this topic. I am the owner of such a processor and for over a week I have been showing on another forum what this processor can do. If you use the Google translator, you will certainly be able to enrich your knowledge about this engineering sample. Best wishes. Link

Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

And as for this processor, it surprised me very positively with its overclocking and memory controller capabilities. Everything is in the source link that I provided, so I encourage those interested to check.
