why is hackintosh allowed in linus forums?

I have a question for the moderators. In the rules of linus forms I saw that piracy is not allowed but hackintosh is allowed?

Hhow is that possible?

Installing macos on a pc is kind of illegal because according to te apple software agreement you can only install it on mac hardware/

So tell me

It didn't used to be. However i think the decision was changed when LMG did a few videos on Hackintoshs which made it a weird contradiction that LMG can make videos/tutorials on it, but not allow discussion on the forum.

Eh, there are many topics that linus discussed, mostly in wan show, that's not allowed here, politics for example

 

I asked a mod about grey area stuffs like these, like helping someone overclock their locked Intel CPU

The reply I got was "as long as it doesn't get the forum into trouble" if I remembered correctly

Piracy isnt allowed, yes.

But hackintoshes arent pirated, you half to be using a image from a real mac for them

and breaking the license agreement is weird.

but ltt did videos on hackintoshes, and then tehre was this poroblem where normal users couldnt do hackintosh posts, but the ltt staff could

so that is not fair. Noneone should be able to do that because that is kind of illegal

Do you have any actual good reason that hackintosh is bad for the world or are you just going to repeat that "it's technically illegal"?

talking about a subject like Hackintosh is a bit different, you are allowed to talk about things freedom of speech.

Providing links to downloading software is not allowed that is the I.P of Apple.

 

Guides for installing modules and editing config files is allowed. With M1 here and being ARM, Hackintoshing is coming to an end.

Once Intel Mac's are gone that is it for OSX dev for install in a few years time, most people use Nvidia GPU's there is no drivers for that.

 

Apple has good hardware to offer with it's software i can't say they care too much about Hackintoshing.

Maybe a few years ago they cared, they have a fix to this whole problem its called the M1 chip.

And you have read every single line of a EULA of every single piece of software you use to make sure you're not doing something against the agreement?

Why? Besides Apple ToS, why should it stop? You can't expect things to happen unless you can give reasons behind your arguments.

 

The rules are already quite clear on this. We do not permit any distribution of software unless its already publicly available by the developers. This includes torrenting cracked software. It includes sharing sites which would distribute Apple images, it includes alternative downloads for even Windows installer or apps normally only available through Microsoft Store (ie. Cinebench).

 

The discussion siding it is fine. Both siding piracy as action (thought promotion about it walks the line) and talking about torrent software. Same goes for talking about ways to setup macOS on non-Apple hardware or even VM, as long as person already has access to image.

 

If Apple would actually care more, they could issue takedown. Then again, there are much bigger hackintosh forums to burn. We get maybe one thread per 2 weeks average on the subject. As for things Linus says or does, thats his channel. He does things as long as they are within lines of Youtube ToS. The forums are not required to follow same logic. Forums are only required to follow Canadian laws. The rules for using this platform are made for this platform.
