What would I have to underclock an i7-9700k so that I wouldn't have to use a CPU cooler for a couple weeks?

What would I have to underclock an i7-9700k so that I wouldn't have to use a CPU cooler for a couple weeks? I have an entire PC already, but I don't have a CPU cooler yet, and I am very impatient. I want to be able to use my PC for light schoolwork until I get it, and thats about it. I have fans that are cooling the rest of the PC, but the I don't have enough $$$ to purchase a CPU cooler yet. I was relying on the CPU coming with a cooler like non-k's and Ryzen CPU's do, but I kinda forgot that the K-Series Intel CPUs don't come with one.

So assuming you could underclock, undervolt, and disable cores to the point of being able to run it without any cooler whatsoever, by the time you did that you'd be better off browsing the internet with an abacus.

You simply won't be able to. Passively cooled CPUs for general desktop use haven't really been a thing since the Pentium/Pentium II days. You could look into an abacus like @flibberdipper suggested.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

This makes me want to try this..... without a heat sink I mean.

I already web browse easily under 1000mhz with power savings mode active in W10.

But the cooling aspect. Could it be done?

1 or 2 cores, maybe 1.2ghz at 0.8 or less v-core maybe? Include a fan directly on the IHS plate? Could it be done??!!!!

(I passively cool my Ryzen Athlon 220ge 4ghz ftw)

You would need to disable all but one core, try to out it at like .5v, and run @ a locked .5ghz, and it might boot. But it would still overheat.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

This is a terrible idea. The IHS is made for transferring heat, not dissipating it.

Just order the literal cheapest compatible cooler that's got Prime shipping.

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-E97379-001-Connector-Aluminum-Heatsink/dp/B004XJNC0O

Order that.

Or for a couple dollars more this is a much much better heat sink that'll see you through using it at stock speeds and stock power limits.

Did you already forget that you were disabling all cores but one and lock it at 500hz? 🤣

I would probably be able to run at least 4 cores and 3 ghz if I were to do this plan, however for only 10 bucks more, I found a 125w tdp cooler for 1151 Intel bracket that was only $24 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/PCCOOLER-120mm-Silentpro-Cooler-Intel/dp/B07MN163T6/ref=sr_1_17?crid=J5W86RRQQKV3&dchild=1&keywords=125w%2Btdp%2Bcpu%2Bcooler&qid=1615439130&sprefix=125w%2Btdp%2Bc%2Caps%2C229&sr=8-17&th=1) so that might be something I do instead

EDIT: also i just saw your pc specs and nice job on nabbing a 30 series gpu

Just wait and save some money to get something like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 or equivalent, trying to do what you are asking might cost you more money if something goes wrong, and if you are will to spend 5 bucks on the something that may not work then I believe that you may be able to wait and save 6x that amount.

That's not in stock until march 24th and then you need several days to ship it.

Unfortunately, as I am still under 16 and don't have a job, it takes me a little bit to save up $40, especially after I owe my brother $30 after losing a bet. If only my ego were a bit smaller, my PC would have been finished a while ago.

Yea ik that's the main problem rn. By then, I would just have enough for a Hyper 212 BE RGB edition

Find some work or collect cans and bottles, every 5 cents counts. Some people make 50+ bucks a week just from disposing cans and bottles.

I would but I don't have enough time, I have school until 3, then I tutor my cousin until 4:30, eat dinner and then go to xc practice, get back at 7:30, shower and then play video games until 9, and then I am on my chromebook until about 11 before going to sleep

I mean ok, sure but then it would make more sense to actually wait,  I mean that's already half of your 'cooler' budget,  no?

Heh, thanks,  it wasn't even that hard 👀 but back in December I knew I had to get one as the upcoming poor availability and rising prices was easily predictable...paid 650 euros btw

lol ive tested multiple mobo combinations with the lowest specs i was willing to use, i am able to use the 9700k beacause i got in a combo deal on newegg with a mobo, and that saved $75, also its taken me over 6 months to save up for the rest of the pc. All I am missing is the CPU cooler and case, but my brother has an old case that still has fans. I mean I also need a GPU, but I'm not gonna buy one rn as even a 1660s is over $700. That's why I got an APU, so that I could still use the PC until prices go down. Getting rid of the 9700k would actually make my build cost go up, and it just wouldn't be worth upgrading, I would just get a 10600k, as they have similar performance.
