As for copy paste, no, I work places were I don't want to take a laptop.

Id personally shoot raw for everything, cause why not. File sizes aren't that much bigger and you can play with them a good amount more in post, so why not shoot raw.

 

Id try to send the images after the event. Or use the wifi on the 80d to copy it to a phone/laptop automatically(7d2 doesn't have wifi included)

That lens will be your limit fast, Id personally go with a 17-55 2.8 here, but there are other reasonble mid range zooms if you need one.

I don't like the super short F2.8 focal lengths with a zoom. go f4 and get that wider range, the move to primes when you need that extra light

Cause I have no editing software, now I do.

I used to use a XTi for along time during that entire time I didn't have access to a photo editor (besides windows but that garbage)

Only last couple weeks I have access to lightroom.

I like it for the low light uses and shallow depth of field. And on crop 55mm is reasonbly long for most uses. And the 17-55 is a darn good lens also. Pretty sharp, low distortition.

 

Also the constant aperture is nice, so you can zoom without tweaking exposure

Werid part I find my self running around at ISO 800 inside semi dark with a kit lens and it worked just fine.

I also own a 50mm 1.8.

yeah, I've though always walked around with an 18-135 IS or a 24-105 F4

the 17-55 are good lenses and there are some much cheaper 3rd party in that same range

How dark was it? If you want to do night shots or need a shot shutter speed in limited light, a fast lens and good iso performance. I shot a lot of handheld night shots at 25k iso.

it was light enough to reach 1/60 in camera

Id argue its not that dark then. That seems like well light room, It can get much darker in some situations.

I mean, its not a big jump for me between all the rebel line to a 60D, or an older 5D

yeah, I can control a 60D really easy from using a XTi

After thinking the screen issue is not the end of the world the 80d is a new camera for me.
