Looking for a Canon APSC camera

sub68

My canon XTi I have been using has died.

I am looking for a good photography camera.

So I am looking at used cameras.

I have been looking at canons because I have a ton of canon glass.

I like the idea of buying used because its cheaper but still great.

I have been looking at.

iirc, the 70D is a pretty big step up over the 80D, especially in terms of video performance, and the 7D was supposed to be like a pro body with an APS-C sensor. I never really understood the 7D, but it had one of the fastest shutters in canon's line up besides the 1DX. The 7D also is supposed to have some very good weather sealing which is nice to have. Looking at the product page, the 7D has more AF points than the 80D, but the 80D captures 4 more MP (if that matters to you). I rely pretty heavily on AF, so I'd probably chose the 7D II between the two, but budget is the ultimate decider.

I'm curious as to why you're not also considering the 6D. It's pretty affordable and offers some pretty good performance. AF system leaves some things to be desired though, I believe it might be the same system as my T5.

Yeah eBay is quite a gamble. I bought a 6D from there and it came with a scratched sensor. I would highly recommend used photo retailers like UsedPhotoPro (used arm of Roberts Camera) and MPB. I would avoid KEH as they don't really show you what you're buying, but the other two are good. They tend to have more selection and lower prices than the used sections at B&H and Adorama.

I think if you guys can make one of these two work, it would be a good choice.

Id probably avoid unless you need the auto focus or burst speeds. Its a older gen cameras now, and I think the 70/80d would be a abit better image quality wise

probably the go to for cheap ish. Id say the 80d isn't relaly worth it and get this.

Ifyou can do a$1000 id be tempted to get a eos rp. Full frame, but can use apsc lenses with a crop, and full frame lenses.

So the 18-55 is your only aps-c lens? Id get a 6d then. The 18-55 isn't a reason to stay on aps-c in my view.

This is what I did. I keep my aps-c body and 18-55 in the bag and picked up a 24-105 F4L to pair with the 6D. The 24-105 isn't the sharpest lens Canon has ever made, but damn is it a step up over kit lenses on a cropped bodies. Again, the AF system on the 6D is old. It's fast enough, but not a ton of points and no video autofocus.

edit: looks like the 24-105 has gone up a bit in price since I bought mine (I think I paid $330), but they can be had for under $400 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ef+24-105mm+f%2F4l+is+usm&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Complete=1

Probably just go 70d then. THe image quality is about the same on the aps-c cameras, but that 18-55 isn't really a great lens.

Probably not worth the money to go full frame here.

Yeah sounds about right lol. I wasn't sure what the actual limit of the budget was, but if your only income is allowance, probably best to shoot for the 70D.

Id personally get different lenses or primes instead of anouther midrange zoom. Id probably get a 10-18, 35mm f2, 50mm f1.8 as a next lens. Im not a huge fan of midrange zooms, but thats me.

35mm is not a bad focal length as a main lens, really depends on what you shoot.

From what ive seen about that sigma, its a bet better than the kit lens, but not a huge upgrade. Id personally not get it, but thats me.

yeah thats to wide

Just crop it? You can do a 2x crop and still have plenty of detail.

also 35mm on asp-c really isn't that wide.

24-105 F4 is worth it. I'll take a stop slower with IS and a much bigger zoom range. it replaced my EF-S 18-135

your glass collection isn't that big I'd almost consider XT-30, I see used on B&H for around 700$ or XT-20 I see those for 450 on lens authority
