GTX 1060 6GB vs RX 570 in 2021

Hi there,

As you all are aware that currently is the worst time to buy a new gpu. Also I'm waiting for the new budget gpus like RTX 3050 TI or similar but I don't think Nvidia or AMD can keep up with the demand at least for a year.  But I have got 2 offers to purchase below GPUs around $100(10000INR)

GTX 1060 6GB: https://www.asus.com/in/Graphics-Cards/DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/overview/
RX 570: https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/Radeon-RX-570-GAMING-X-4G/Specification

Here's my system:
Ryzen 3 3100
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
Corsair CX 550W
GTX 750 TI(too old to play new games now)

Please solve my below queries:
1) which gpu I should go with GTX 1060 6GB or RX 570 as I watched benchmarks of both of them and its a close call. and how future proof are they?
2) is AMD RX 570 is beneficial as I have AMD cpu? also I have AMD freecync monitor so is that worth the hype and should go with AMD gpu instead?
3) is my psu capable enough for these GPUs? I know both gpu's power requirements are low but I still wanna confirm will this make my PC unstable?

Thank you in advance.

1060 is little better. would go with used rx 580 instead.

Unless you can find an 8GB 480/580 somehow, cuz a bit of extra VRAM is always nice.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Depend on games, some games works better on Nvidia and some on AMD. If you going to play games that use OpenGL like Java Minecraft, Nvidia GPU will always be better.

Not really, Nvidia support Freesync as well since 1000 series but if your monitor is not in Nvidia Gsync-Compatible list then the experience is probably better on AMD GPU.

well I had a 580... performance was utterly worse than my then 1060 in *any* game I've tried.... I then was told by the usual suspects that "these games are optimized for nvidia" lol... but that didn't matter to me, what mattered was the absolutely awful performance and heat that thing produced... of course I returned it asap.

Whats funny, it actually ran better in benchmarks... better than my 1060 even, but since I neither play benchmarks nor mine that was of totally no use for me (just a bit curious / sus) 🤷🏼

I'd go with the GTX 1060 since its right there with the GTX 1660. As for your second question, nope that doesn't matter, you can also use AMD Freesync with Nvidia cards. And for your third question, yes your PSU will easily handle the 1060 (or RX570).

Funny, I got a customer last week that asked if we have 580/570 in stock because PUBG look smoother in his friend PC with 580 despite his 1060 FPS is higher. 🤣

1660 is like at least tier higher than 1060 6GB, around 20% faster.

That *is* funny because I actually think amd graphics look "smoother" may be placebo (I think not tho) I had a 5500 xt last year - huge improvement over the 580, but still similar issues... random drops at same settings for no reason (but much less severe than the 580) - even tho it had *more* vram than my 1060...

But I always thought "what a shame it actually looks nicer" (colors etc) than on the 1060... but yeah the problem was that my 1060 ran these games pretty much flawlessly, so it wouldn't have been an 'upgrade' in any way. (I thought it would be because of the vram, but turns out more vram is only good if you actually have the power to actually use it, who woulda thought! :D)

No idea, micro stutter or frame time issue goes beyond AMD vs Nvidia GPU. I told the guy to bring his rig so i can check if it actually the GPU or something else.

If you're using HDMI cable, Nvidia GPU will look more washed out compare to AMD because Nvidia for what ever reason even in 2020 defaulted the Output Dynamic Range to Limited Range instead of Full Range which is stupid waste of time imo.

Depend on game engine imo, some game benefit from AMD superior bandwidth and higher VRAM capacity. (comparing Polaris vs Pascal)

Hi Guys thanks to all. Yes GTX 1060 6gb varient is more likely the choice. However there's a slight price difference between those 2 cards I have been offered. The RX 570 is $75 and GTX 1060 6gb is around $100. I'm also waiting for GPUS like GTX 3050 TI and RX 6500XT but I don't know when they'll come. Even if they'll come they will hardly be on stock on MSRP. I'm thinking I need to wait at least a year for those. So you think 1060 6gb is future proof?

I'd pay $25 more for a 1060 6GB vs a 570. However, if you want to use FreeSync with a 1060 it can only be over DisplayPort. So if your FreeSync monitor only does FreeSync over HDMI you will not be able to use FreeSync with the 1060, and would have to just use it as a regular monitor.
