GPU has 6 pin and 8 pin socket. But I can't find a power supply that has both. Do both need to be hooked up?

Krenny

I already own the ASUS DUAL AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. And it has a 6 pin and an 8 pin PCI power connectors. But I can't find a power supply with both. On other forums the agreement seems to be you need to hook up both if you want to use the GPU to its full potential. Is it possible that there are just two port to increase compatibility? Or do i need to hook up both. And if I do, does anyone know of a powers supply with both connector or if i can get adapters?

There are way too many PSU's to list with 6 and 8 pin connectors.  Look for the words "6+2".  Most have dual 6+2 connectors, and use one in the 8 socket since 6+2=8.

Really old PSUs have those different 6 pin and 8 pin connectors. That's why graphics cards used to come with dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapters (some still do)

Nowadays a PSU will be equipped with 6+2 pin connectors that can be used either in a 6 pin or 8 pin PCIe port.

And if you're worried about needing two separate cables instead of using a single cable with two connectors, that's really only a problem with really old or really crappy power supplies. A quality unit with nice cables will handle a GPU with a single cable no problem, that's how I'm running my GPU currently.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Yes you need both and any quality PSU will have the right connectors for it.

8 pin power connectors is actually 6+2 pin PCIE. The +2 can be broken off and used or not used, meaning a PSU with two 6+2 pin PCIE connectors can plug into the GPU.
