Xiaomi roll out MIUI 12 stable to a number of phones

Summary

Xiaomi is now rolling out MIUI 12 stable (based on android 11) to a number of Xiaomi phones (such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the Poco F1,  X2 and F2 pro), although Xiaomi has said it will not support a number of Redmi phones, which Xiaomi originally said it would support, these include the Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6.

My thoughts

Xiaomi updating their phones to MIUI 12 is good because Android 11 (What it is MIUI is based off) brings many improvements to Xiaomi phones. I hope more Xiaomi phones will get Android 11/MIUI 12 and more manufactories follow suit in updating their phones to android 11.

Problem with Xioami is that a lot of phones will get MIUI 12, but it'll be based on Android 10. Seen it too often...

It matters when Android underneath simply isn't the latest one.

Having a P30 Pro, while not Xiaomi, still has shown Android version hasn't really mattered. EMUI has had features that weren't even in Android until 10 or 11.

I'm still on Android 10 with MIUI 12.04 on my Poco F2 Pro at the moment. That's one good thing about MIUI in my opinion is that you still get some feature updates to older phones regardless of the actual Android version underneath. My poco f1 that I gave to my brother after using it for 2 years is still getting updates too, which can't be said for some manufacturers that simply stop OTA updates completely.

To be honest though, if I keep my phone longer than a few years, I expect to have to use a modded ROM. That's one reason other than the fantastic hardware and build quality of a lot of Xiaomi phones I have, is their popularity in the modding community.. it's almost guaranteed that there'll be modded ROMs out there for you to use if you either don't like MIUI or need updates after official updates have stopped.

[edit] I still use my redmi note 4 on an older version of Android and it's still like new for usability... I just don't use any important/sensitive info/sites etc on there.

My Mi10 Pro was on MIUI12 (Android 10) for awhile, just had the Android 11 version update.

Made the switch to Xiaomi early this year and i've been impressed with them so far.

  • 2 weeks later...

They also sent out a patch two days ago that bricked note 8 pros... Just be careful and backup before you update.
