Anyone using Mint Mobile?

Just saw an ad for it and they have a $30 unlimited plan.  Currently paying $60 on AT&T and it's a szeable savings to look into.

 

Anyone using Mint, or has in the past?  Experiences?

 

I'm in Atlanta, where the coverage looks pretty good.

Never heard of it, but it does seem quite interesting. That would also be about 50% savings from my unlimited plan, the real question is how does the connection fair in real life compared to their map. The only way to find out is to try! Also their 30 dollar unlimited plan is for the first payment, it increases to 40 a month after.

Well it's owned by Ryan Reynolds (the actor), a relatively new player in the mobile market.  Also, you can lock in $30 a month renewal by selecting 12 months.  Would be a 50% savings for me too.

 

Tho to be honest, I doubt I need unlimited data.  I probably barely use over 3GB, so a $15 or $20 a month plan would be phenomenal.

I use iD and get like 30GB for £10 with their rollover, I barely use it so it feels unlimited to me.

I need it for USA use, and while I see that iD has roaming... doubt it would be good fulltime in America.

Lol, I thought he was a funny spokesman for hte company but he is actually in investor...

They use the Three network, who have rather poor coverage, especially in rural areas.

I have Mint Mobile and love it! Probably been using it for about 8 months. I'm on the 3 GB/mo plan, which is more than enough for me. I also pre-pay for 12 months so it works out to $15/mo. WAY better than the Verizon plan I moved off of for 2 GB at ~$50/mo.

 

Amex even had a deal last month where they give a $45 dollar credit if you spend $180 on mintmobile.com. Took advantage of that to renew another year and effectively get 3 months free.

 

As long as you have good T-Mobile coverage you should have no issues. Plus, the wifi calling seems to work really well if I'm in an area with less than perfect coverage. I have my phone set to prefer the cell network, but to auto switch to wifi calling if necessary. Works flawlessly.

They use the T Mobile network. Im a T Mobile subscriber and I will say this. Their network is OK, but if you travel to a lot of rural areas your not going to have service. Basically T Mobile is good in the city and metro area but outside of that coverage can get spotty.

I tried ting and then mint. I had t-mobile.

 

Mint works.  There are a few differences between t-mobile and mint that I can find:  no hot spots, no brick and mortar stores, and you pay in bigger chunks.  I bought a full year, so while I paid the equivalent of $30/mo for unlimited, it cost over $300.  Mint is a sub carrier.  I think they use the t-mobile network, so if t-mobile works in your area so will mint.

 

Ting probably would have been a better deal if I knew covid was coming.  Ting is metered line.  If you don’t use mobile services it’s cheaper.  Sometimes a lot cheaper.  If you can always stay in range of wifi you can win.  I wound up using a bunch of map stuff for directions though and it turned out to be no savings over t-mobile for me though.

 

Theres one more system I haven’t tried: prepaid phone cards.  Tracphone is one of several brands doing that.  That can be as cheap or cheaper but there’s more confusion.  Works best if you’re one of those people who rarely uses a phone at all.

Nope.  It’s real.  The video service was the joke.  Except it turns out the movie doesn’t actually suck.  Not fantastic, but it doesn’t suck either

Phone hot spots do work under Mint - it just counts against your monthly data like anything else.

There is also Visible which is unlimited everything for $40/month or as low as $25/month if you get 3 other people to sign up. (-$5 each month per extra person). They use the Verizon network if that makes any difference.

I didn’t test.  I’ve never had any use for t-mobile hotspots.  They weren’t mentioned and my attitude was “no functional loss for me”

I'm in Montana, USA, and tried the 7-day trial for Mint this spring. It was bad. 

Basically, my phones (Moto G5S+ and G Power) would 'disconnect' from the network if the phone was put away. If I turned off the screen, and put it in my pocket, I wouldn't see ANY notifications until I pulled the device out & woke it back up. Then a minute later, I would get a flood of missed notifications. 

 

Since it piggy-backs T-mobile, and they are still expanding in Montana, I'd bet it's a capacity issue, with Mint being the 2nd tier priority.    Also, in September, I demoed a T-mobile Test Drive hotspot, and the connectivity was way worse than my current AT&T.
