How have you been trying to boot the system? If you don't have a power button (or equivalent), it won't start. The switch on the power supply just disconnects it from mains.

Yeah if you aren't using the case power button, or if your mobo doesn't have one either, you have to short the motherboard pins that are used for the power connector.

The reason why the PSU is not turning on when you switch it on while connected to the motherboard, its because the system isn't on at all.

You shorting the PSU with the paper clip method is allowing it to have its fans spin is because the power supply's line that gets shorted by the motherboard is being shorted by that paper clip (if I remember correctly anyways)

Not really, you just need a way to power on the system by shorting the pins (thats what the power button on the case does). You can use a screw driver to do this or just connect the front panel power connector from the case (refer to your mobo manual to see what pins to connect to, unless it says on the mobo itself). You do not need to connect all of the connectors.

Thank you all so much for the help, I really appreciate.  You helped me put my build together and find solutions to my problems. although I found out that my gpu was defective hardware and I need to RMA it. My first build has definetely been an experience and I thank you all again for the help.

All the best!

No, I've bought things off eBay and they worked perfectly fine. In fact I bought an old GPU and it worked great. Just because it's eBay doesn't mean it's bad, now sometimes there is a shady seller, but basically that happens with any online store where people can post things they want to sell.

Is there a chance that the pcie cables of the psu are broken? cause everything is powered but the gpu, and the gpu definetively works

Maybe, highly unlikely though.

What do you think it might be if not that?

How did you determine the gpu was faulty?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.
