"‘Netflix for pirates’ brings streaming video to BitTorrent users"

TopWargamer

I hope Plex Media Server gets this as a channel/app or something. That'd be great.

Just saying, but Popcorn Time IS open source, so you may able to add it to Plex, or maybe even XBMC. Give it some time and I'm sure that some apps will pop up for it.

Well they said they don't expect legal issues since they don't host anything.

But that's basically what TPB is.

So how can they say they won't have legal issues when you look at all the things TPB has been through.

Pretty sure the government will try and destroy them.

You missed where they said there were no ads, no premium accounts, no subscriptions, and none of the developers were getting paid.

TPB makes money off the ads from people coming to their website. I think they believe that difference is what will save them. I'm not sure about that.

It's very hard to shut down a non-profit, open source project.

Content providers could prevent this stuff from gaining popularity. You know, by making their content available on any device we choose once we pay to use it.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

So, it leeches the stream from people who have already torrented the media using a more traditional method? This is basically [downloading then never seeding] x 9001. How can resolution be specified when you're leeching a specific file? uTorrent already has streaming built into it but it's awful.

I don't understand how this works, but I'll give it a go...

Here's a thought: have streaming services move to a hybrid download system. Viral videos on YouTube? Download/stream via bit torrent. Netflix movies? Same thing. I don't see why torrenting technology is used more widely and for more things. It would save huge amounts of bandwidth and money. Only issue I see is upload speeds. Not everyone has a minimum of 1mb/s upload...

Unfortunately for me I have some micro stuttering issues, maybe it is due to the fact that i'm on my laptop at the moment and using WiFi.

Will test later though. Seems like an interesting concept for an htpc frontend.

If you have XBMC you could also install the icefilms add-on. Works great for streaming movies (you don't want to pay for).

So I'm just looking through the Animation section on this thing, and I'm just like, "Good movie, Good movie, Good movie, Ok movie, Good movie, Good movie..." etc.

How did they do it? I mean, this is only the first page, and I assume they filter by popularity, so it makes sense, but almost every single one of these movies are awesome. :DDD An anime one here and there (Studio Ghibli) even!

And I noticed that at the top of the categories is the word "Movies".

This heavily implies to me that TV shows or Series are coming soon. :D

Bittorrent stream is the future of netflix and twitch.
