What do you call the hot swap component thingy on mech keyboards?

Go to solution Solved by Mateyyy,

PCB Hot Swap sockets. Kailh's are quite well regarded from what I've heard, and among the most common:

I want to make a custom pcb layout and also want to make it hot swappable... just wondering what these hot swap thingy are called...

These are called Hotswap sockets, I think the main manufacturer (or at least most wellknown one for these) is Kailh.

will these work on a regular non hot swappable pcb? like you just solder it to the existing sockets and they become hot swap?

Afaik that would only work on supporting PCBs, so definitely do look up if you can do that with your PCB prior to ordering them.

No. If you want to do that, try Mill Max hot swap sockets

:)
