Issues with Ads on the forum

Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

Thanks for flagging. It looks like a change that I made a long time ago was interfering with the rules for exempting people from ads, so I'm afraid I have fixed that now.

Browser, version and OS:

every browser I have tried and heard of from others (I asked about it on moderators on the forum before this)

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

Login in to the forum

What happened?

Once signed in, no ads at all appear on the forum

What did you expect to happen?

I expected ads to appear in a couple of locations such as at the bottom of the page

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable:

all pages

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Images or where I am expecting ads are shown here:

Spoiler

Images of what is actually shown are in here:

Spoiler

Any other relevant details:

Ads show when not signed in on both incognito and regular mode of chrome and safari. As soon as I sign in, no ads are shown.
From what I have seen in various posts, I don’t think this is intentional. I do not have any ad blockers on.
I am not complaining about the lack of ads, but I figured if they are meant to be shown and aren’t, you should know.

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page? N/a

Sorry if formatting is really bad, I’m on a phone right now

For what it's worth, I just verified and I am seeing the same behavior. I totally forgot the forum even had ads, I haven't seen any in so long. I verified in the following browsers:

Mobile (iOS 13.7):

Safari: Not signed in = all ads shown as expected. As soon as I sign in, no ads are shown anywhere.

Desktop (macOS Catalina 10.15.6):

Safari (Version 13.1.2): Not signed in = all ads shown as expected. As soon as I sign in, no ads are shown anywhere.

Firefox (Version 79.0): Not signed in = all ads shown as expected. As soon as I sign in, no ads are shown anywhere.

Chrome (Version 84.0.4147.135): Not signed in = all ads shown as expected. As soon as I sign in, no ads are shown anywhere.

I also have this "issue" (it really isn't). I forgot there were ads at all tbh. I wonder if this has to do with dark mode tho. I don't remember ever seeing an ad in any screenshots of dark mode. I could just be imagining things tho lol

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

Put a reaction on my post if I helped

I think there are no screenshots with ads on dark mode because you need to be signed in to switch and when signed in there are no ads.

I took one for the team and changed my theme to day, proceeded to get blinded, then logged out, saw ads same as before, logged back in, theme stayed as day but again not seeing ads. Judging by the sample size of one dark theme does not seem to be the issue, unless it broke something that can't be fixed by changing back to day theme. Also the reason you only see screenshots of ads in dark mode is probably because most people use dark mode.

It's possible that ads were disabled for logged in users. Since everyone else is reporting not seeing ads when logged in I'll assume that is the case.

Do you know if something got fixed? I am now getting ads again when signed in, so it looks like they might not have been intentionally disabled before.
