Waiting for upgrade,RTX3070,RTX3080,or Navi 2X?

linuxhua

Look,I know that everyone may get blown their mind by the RTX 3000 series launches(so do I),

But,according to last generation situation (by the time when AMD released RX 5700 series and Jensen Huang takes off his jacket and quickly push the super card to everyone),so,There’s only a question...Should I wait for Lisa su as well as AMD itself take action on how to fight back to Nvidia 3000 series?(maybe your can just leave your comment at the below,I may take it,However, I will still waiting for this year that AMD and Nvidia will take their best values cards to the market,And I gotta purchase it as fast as my wallet was taken by Gabe)

I honestly don't think we're going to see anything from AMD that exceeds the 30-series cards from Nvidia. However, this might be the year that AMD finally catches up. It's all rumors, so apply liberal salt, but RDNA2 should actually trade blow for blow with Nvidia all the way up the product line. This current gen, AMD only really competed with up to a 2070 (super). The 2080 Ti, for sure, had no match. Now, we might actually have comparable AMD cards for each Nvidia card. The point is that I don't think you necessarily need to wait for AMD to make their move before picking up a 30-series, unless you'd just really prefer to have an AMD card. There's not going to be some AMD alternative that's going to make your Nvidia card look crappy in comparison.

No 3rd party reviews of 3000 cards yet and no info about AMD, so... nobody knows.

Don't expect AMD will be able to compete, but again who knows.

you don't need to buy at release

you can wait until you have the gpu and by then you may be lucky and get the game discounted

He meant the game of course, you're not gonna die if you play it 3 months after it comes out.

It's your choice what's more important between knowing what happens with cards and playing day 1...

the restock will probably be in November or December so you can buy it in Christmas and by then you'll have the game discounted and a choice between amd and nvidia

Why should I wait 3 months to play a game I own, and have been looking forward to for almost 2 years? Just because it doesn't appeal to you to experience the game exclusively at max settings, doesn't mean it doesn't appeal to anyone.

One of the biggest reasons to wait for the upgrade is the price battling the two brands may do.  I can tell you a lot of people's RTX 2070 wasn't looking so hot after the price battles happened and a 5700XT was a much better option in terms of price/performance and the 2070S was selling for the same price they got their cards for with a nice performance bump; all of which happened due to the price war around the 5700/XT launch and Nvidias SUPER (lol) response.

I would hands down go for a 3080 if that's in your price range as I dont think AMD is going to have as good an answer, but if you wait you will have the information and also potentially a price discount.

El Zoido:  9900k + RTX 4090 / 32 gb 3600mHz RAM / z390 Aorus Master

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar

My question here is, has anyone seen if the 20 gig version of the 3080 will be available for purchase at launch? Not opposed to the 3090 but at double the price for not double the cores the 3080 20 gig seems right for me. (3D professional can use the VRAM for shots 8 is starting to not cover it.)

Kinda like Skyrim that I've put over 2000 hours into? Maybe Fallout 4, which I'm up to about 5000 hours right now? What about Star Trek Online where I have upwards of 8000? It's not an always-the-same-gameplay type of game.

So, a much shorter time than "I own the game literally forever"...

What 20GB version? Nvidia hasn't said anything about higher VRAM capacity versions, nor hinted at them.

CD Projekt red is one of the few companies I pre-order from they have never let me down and every game they have released I have enjoyed, I am looking forward to spending months if not years playing Cyberpunk 2077 just like I did The Witcher 1-3.

I know how much work goes into a title like this happy to pay full price and see my money go to a company I believe in. Especially with so many other companies going down the monetize customers to the wall or oh lets just put out a low effort sequel.

As a gamer who cares about the future of games I will damn well pre-order all CD Projekt Red games until such time as they give me cause not to because I want them to be around for a long time, especially when they buck the trend and give us dlc for free and paid for expansions that are almost the size of the actual game. free remastered versions of the Witcher 3 game when it is released if you already own it, I would be crazy not to support them to the best  I could.

Anyone who doesn't support a company that hasn't gone down the EA/Activision/Warner Bros route is kinda crazy.

Agreed, though I never did get the feel for The Witcher. Just not my gameplay style. (I hate melee combat in general in shooter style games)

I have probably 100 games on my most played list with over 500 hours in each, and I am happy to say I supported those companies at full price because I wanted to see more games like that, it is all very good being a savvy person with money but if that company shuts down because you were too cheap to support it at full price then don't come complaining.

A lot of investment and future plans in business have to be based on that crucial first week/month sales it can become the difference between reinvesting in the game or laying off people.

Let us be real here.

Anyone who pre-orders activision, bethesda (hate to say it), EA games deserves to get burnt they have proved time and time again that we don't matter, if you pre-order from those companies you are saying "hey I like being lied to and treated like a £ tree".

But as a gamer as in someone who loves games and is invested in the future of the gaming industry I can decide where to put my money and who to support.

Maybe I have a different view of things, Games are extremely important to me, in fact Games are one of my prime reasons for still being alive today.

To what OP asked, i have the following to say.

If there are no reasons to rush and get a new gpu then wait (if you've been fine with your current gpu until now then wait, dont rush). Wait for AMD to release RDNA2 because they will be able to compete up to 3080 imo (compete, not beat). Even if you do not want an AMD card, be sure that Nvidia will either lower prices (i doubt it) or release new models to compete with what AMD is going to release (supers, ti's and the like).

Personally, i will be getting the 3080 at launch and there are a few reasons for it.

1. Its a beast of a card and even if somehow amd manages to beat the 3080, the 3080 will still be a beast of a card that will be able to run anything you can think of for the next few years.

2. I have a Gsync monitor and i know that it probably runs on amd freesync as well but i'd rather play it safe and use an nvidia card.

3. I am sick and tired of AMD's stupid drivers. Im sorry but i think that Nvidia is so much more ahead in drivers than amd is. Their ui is a fkn maze, you need gps to navigate it and dont get me started on stability issues. My last 3 cards were 2 amds back to back and then an nvidia 2080 (which i sold a month ago) and both amd were a disaster when it comes to drivers while nvidia worked perfectly fine.

4. I am an impatient guy and cant wait to play cyberpunk 2077 (yes, i pre-ordered and i fully agree with what you said about support cdpr) at max settings. Im building a new pc just for that game.

I will no doubt cry a bit inside when nvidia, inevitably, will release a better 3080 for the same price or slightly higher but oh well, this happens a lot in the tech world , there is always something better around the corner ...

Sorry for the wall of text :)

AMD was sick of the poor drivers too. They fixed them over 6 months back, and they are now quite stable. The new driver control UI is quite navigable, if you're willing to learn something that's different from Nvidia.

I remember when ATi was still around and holly mother of god those drivers ... Since AMD took over, their drivers have improved a lot but still not to a point where i can safely say they are as good as nvidia's.

Sure, they are much better now dont get me wrong but i still have issues with them from time to time.

Maybe its not the same for everyone but ive not had good experiences with amd when it comes to drivers. I admit, havent had issues with them in the past couple of months but still ..
