Crazy 2080ti prices?! Is anyone paying for one of these right now?

Zberg

PC part picker has them starting around 1500 and lots of used ones on ebay for 1100+!  What the hell?

I would think with new series launching prices would be in the dirt for the 2080ti.  Are people actually paying this premium?  Is supply that low right now?  What about the market forces am I missing here

Yeah, most likely. It's been discontinued, along with the 2080 Super and 2070 Super in late July iirc or around that time.

they have always been like that I have never seen a 2080ti sell for less than $1000 ever. Hopefully they come down in prices as the next gen comes out

In the lead-up to the Ampere launch, Nvidia has discontinued manufacturing of all the Turing cards. This means that there's a limited number of boards going out to system integrators, which means lower market volume. It's not enough of a reduction in volume as those crazy prices suggest, but hardware retailers are sort of like petrol companies, in that they'll use any excuse to raise their prices.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

They were at $900 for the cheapest ones for a short while on Newegg. It was during the back to school sale.

It was before the $1200 stimulus check, and ended shortly after they started sending those out. I think they just ran out of stock for them.

I had multiple opportunities on the EVGA black for 999.  Never ended up going for that model specifically.

But cards have always been in the 1099-1300 range (the vast majority).  Kind of crazy to see them at 1700 on newegg for a card I paid 500 less for when they were already expensive.

Not how things work....

2080Ti's are the top end models, those normally don't drop very much, especially the top tier cards. The ones with the huge coolers that stay cool even overclocked and have the custom PCB's... I know mine stays in around 63C with a big OC in a closed case with the fans running around 60%.... Yeah, those cards....

Those are pulling around $2500 new now or so....

And the supply is low now too.

The prices will not drop until the 3080Ti comes out basically.

Maybe the aftermarket 3080 depending on how good it really is.

So it won't be anytime soon really.
