Not to get political, but are we really expecting anyone in the US government to make a good judgement on what tech companies should or should not do?

OP, you seem to misinformed.

 

As I understand it, the Trump administration was originally calling for an outright ban of TikTok. It was under that scenario, that no US company would have been acceptable. They have since changed course and said an acquisition of TikTok by a US company would be okay. Trump specifically mentioned that MS would fine.
