3000 series paired up with i7 8086k

Hello! I was wondering if it's worth pairing an i7 8086k with the upcoming graphics card and if there will be any bottlenecking. I was thinking of buying the 2070 super, but i'd rather wait for the new ones.

No problem. The 8086K is still an excellent gaming chip. Do a basic 5.0GHz overclock and you'll have the same gaming performance as the 10th gen intel chips. A 3070 or even the higher-end GPUs will be a perfect fit for your CPU.

 

Also there will always be 1 bottleneck in any system. Regardless of what CPU or GPU you have.

 

Edit: I'd recommend waiting until AMDs RDNA2 GPUs are out aswell before making any decision for either AMD or NVIDIA.

Temperatures: Furmark CPU-Burner and GPU-Burner running at the same time. Measured after water temperature hits equilibrium (39°C with fans at 1000RPM).

CPU: 75°C

GPU: 54°C

You shouldn't see a cpu bottle neck unless your going as far back as 5th or 6th gen intel

I have same CPU in my main gaming system, and am also looking to upgrade GPU with the incoming generation. I have no worries about CPU performance. That's not to say it is the best any more unlike when it came out, but it should still do a great job for modern titles.

very minor bottleneck is some cases (it's definitely not zero though), wouldn't upgrade for it, wouldn't buy a 2070 now.

If you venture into high end 2080 ti type performance the i7 8086k will bottleneck at 1440p but it is gone at 3440 X 1440. That is with a 5ghz all core overclock.

 

For example. 

SOTTR at the highest preset is 72% GPU bound at 1440p doing 133fps average with an EVGA FTW3 Ultra 2080 ti. 

SOTTR at the highest preset is 100% GPU bound at 1440p doing 84fps average with an EVGA SC2 1080 ti(1080 ti = 2070S).  

 

With a 72% CPU bottleneck in SOTTR I don't think even my i9 10900k will be able to remove all of it.  

 

Basically for games if you can reach an all core overclock of 5ghz there is no upgrade for you now and I don't see that changing until games us more cores.
