You shouldn't do this! Delidding and Lapping die!

ColinLTT

We’re taking Intel’s 9900K and going FULL HARDCORE by delidding and lapping the die with NudeCNC’s NLap tools. Will the chip survive? Watch and find out!

maybe with some engineering you guys could create something that laps the surface of the chip without the human error part and with greater precision even maybe? A machine that would come and go with adjustable height and applying a constant force, could make this process easier and even """"safe"""".

Okay, so you did some Intel chips. How about some AMD ones?

Free Dutch_Master Tech Tip: Threadrippers are pretty d@ng expensive, try some older socket AM3(+) procs for starters ;)

(yeah, pun intended :P )

Ah, that mentioning of "fun" at the ending made me think of Dwarf's Fortress. Since in that game, one got to be careful, otherwise one might risk having "fun".
(sometimes due to ones own mistake, like flooding the whole fortress with water when figuring out how to run a pump from an endless power source... or digging into the caverns bellow and getting invaded by forgotten beasts.)

Though, sanding down a chip is an interesting thing to do, and does have some rather major performance improvements to be fair.

Not sure if AMD needs it to even be done, they did say themselves "Red is good" 🙄

Note: I know what they meant by red is good.

Couldn't you use a mirror instead of the granite plate?

I'm pretty sure that's how most people lap an IHS.

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

Put a reaction on my post if I helped

Shouldn't do this???

I've been doing this to soldered AMD chips since as far back as 2009!

No you shouldn't do that unless you're at enthusiast level like Linus and crew!!!

I like this video :D

Cool vid, though like Roman done in his vid on this, you should have tested using Base Line, De-lidded, and then Lapped, so u can show what difference lapping the Die made.

Still, for those really interested in those kinds of results just check out the Der8auer youtube channel.

A little off topic, but you got a bot in your comment section on this video that is spamming ridiculously hard.  I know you can't really keep up with all the bots, but could you ban the one that's on almost all of your top comments?

P4m didn't have soldered IHS plates.

My post was reference to soldered delids, not lapping a core.

We where doing that back in 1999 and 2000 with socket 462 chips......

I am reporting the comments.  I'm even reporting the accounts.  There are like 4 of them.  They are leaving replies on nearly every comment.
