I want a cheap m.2 ssd and i was thinking of getting the 1TB wd blue sn550. I noticed that its dramless and linus said not to buy dramless ssds but the performance and endurance seems ok. I also considered the crucial p1 which has dram but I noticed that it performs worse and has lower endurance probably because its qlc. Which ssd should i get.

The Kingston A2000 is a pretty decent option, with RAM (reportedly) and TLC memory.

Last time I checked the WD Black SN750 was the same price or really close to the price of the blue, even if it's a few more bucks it would be well worth it to get the Black instead.

Might be able to get other cached options.

The P1 would be the better pick for regular workloads tho. As untill the drive runs out of SLC, it will be better.

USA and idk the benchmarks on tomshardware shows it running worse and they probably test it as relatively new

I think the sn550 would be a better bet. Look here https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-blue-sn550-m2-nvme-ssd-review-best-dramless-ssd-yet/2

Where are you getting the p1 would be faster?

idk linus' testing showed that there is basically no perceivable real world benefit and the reason im considering them is because they are basically the same price as a sata ssd (wd black is 30 dollars more)

Huh? I was just saying that the WD black is a better drive for the same price (last time I checked). The WD Black SN750 is an NVME drive while the WD Blue isn't so you get a better drive for the same price.

That was notably faster than i recalled when i looked at it a while ago.

It would je faster in scenarios where you write bigger than the 12gb SLC cache assuming the P1 is not filled all the way up.

As for other scenarios, dont know any. Thanks for the heads up.

any ssd that uses qlc memory.

Sabrent Q begs to differ iirc, tho that is one very good QLC drive.

Sabrent Q is a touch more.

Essentially the same as the Phison E12 drives but with QLC.

And its got a lot of dynamic SLC cache to spend.

The Kingston A2000 is normally quite cheap (in around the same neighbourhood as the Crucial P1, Intel 660p or WD SN550) and is actually really decent. I'd take it over either of the drives mentioned previously.

Also check for pricing on the Silicon Power A80.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

The sabrent Q is a A80 but with QLC

And its 8$ less than the Mp34 (same as A80)

And 10$ less than the A80.

Edit: the A2000 is an excelleny choice for the right price tho.

The only thing I'm concerned about is it's 260 TBW is much lower than the 600TBW of the wd blue sn550

For that small of a difference I'd personally go for either of the TLC drives tbh.

Not something your are likely unless you write a decent bit frequently.

It just makes it unsuitable for people who use it in scenarios that do involve a lot of writes.

Fair enough, tho if you arent gonna run into the QLC limitations, might aswell save 8$.

Yeah probably I've a 850 pro as my boot drive for like 3 years and it only has 55 tbw so probably the controller or something will die first

Usually either controller or one of the many other parts.

Providing you have a, non-group regulated, decent PSU. I dont see it dying that way either.

I really wouldn't worry about that. The chances of you reaching that limit before you'd want to upgrade are slim to none.
