Alternativ to Windows (10) - Explorer

Hi,

have someone an alternative to the windows explorer? I don't know why but the explorer sucks. Everytime I want to search something it takes soo long (even with SSDs). And sometimes (mostly while transferring to much files) it crashes.

I tried Linux and the speed is at least 4 times higher, it doesn't crash and it finds my data right away.

I tried the program "search everything" and it finds all my data in a few seconds.. but it isn't unfortunately a all in one solutions.

---

(I tried out some other "exlorer-things" like Tera-Copy but I think in the Background it is still the Windows explorer.. with crashes a some point, and is low, too.)

----

I would love to hear some alternatives from you. Maybe there's a fix or improvement for that. Even playing in the registry data would be a problem for me.

Thanks.

are you sure windows is working correctly because a large file transfer shouldn't crash a machine

I agree with, @emosun. If there are crashes then I'd be looking for a deeper issue.

With respect to a Windows Explorer alternative: Directory Opus. It does everything Windows Explorer does and then some.

Yes, ok ok. It only 95% of the time crashes when I want to transfer my whole phone data.

However I mostly search an alternative, because it's so slow. I find it weird, no one complains about it.. I'm the only one? I had a Windows 7 Laptop back in the day, my Home-Tower is running every half year a fresh copy of Windows 10 (i5 3570k, GTX 1060) and my MS Surface Pro 7 obviously Win10.

Every Device have the same issue. The Explorer-Search is soo slow.

I agree the described things could be from corrupted Windows files your hardware seems ok not the newest stuff but ok

maybe reinstall Windows

or use a Linux if you just want to transfer files from your phone

I shouldn't have posted that it crashes sometimes..

Guys, my only concern is that it's so slow. I love the astetic or it but when it comes to file searching, the explorer takes so long.

That's on every Device I had. Newest or oldest Hardware, SSD or HDD, fresh install of Win10 or old one. Always the same. Didn't you notice it too?

I have no performance issue on my 10 year old Core i7 930, with an age old SSD gimped on SATA-2.

Search speed, depending on how slow we are talking about, can be due to lack of Indexing, or you set your Windows to look through file content, and worse if you have that option and you have large or a lot of compress zip files, as it needs to go through those.

As for crashing File Explorer, that is obviously not right. If by crashing you mean becomes unresponsive, than it could be faulty SATA cable or drive. Linux search is basic, is just goes through, by default, the drive journal of I am not mistaken. So, not an active search.

That said, another possibility, is that you have installed directly or indirectly (another software you installed) an add-on/extension for File Explorer, and that is the one screwing things up. The problem is that there there is no manager for this. So your best bet is to use Microsoft System Internals Tool: Autorun, look under Explorer tab.

Or simply your Windows is borked
