You could always start with only a smaller SSD and save some money. Then you could go for a faster GPU or something.

That's an F in the profile pic

Go 250gb minimum SSD and a HDD whatever size you can get, OS and frequently used programs stored on SSD, everything else on HDD. HDD will be faster than a system with just an HDD as it isn't running windows while trying to locate files so even running programs off your HDD will be faster than normal.

Only real benefit to going big SSD is simplicity, lower noise and faster load times for everything on your PC.

I ran a 120gb SSD for my boot drive, browser and Inkscape (plus CS:GO very recently) and had all other files and programs on my 500gb HDD. Worked AMAZING! Now I have a 500gb NVMe SSD and I'm honestly getting similar performance with the exception of file big file transfers.

I agree with what a lot of people above me are saying, but if you have quite a few games you want to play often and they total to over 200 GB (easy peasy with just 1-2 AAA games), you may want to get a large sata SSD (Crucial MX500 is a very good choice) to store everything on and then buy a HDD later. If you normally don't use SSDs as boot drives, you will be very impressed when u see even a "slow" sata one boot ur PC instead of a HDD. Also small SSDs are kinda hard to find simply bc it is so cheap to make ones above 500GB, the chiplets are so dang inexpensive. But if u aren't going to be impressed by Sata SSDs, I guess you could go small M.2 and a large HDD.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

You don't need to spend $180 to get a 1TB SSD. Just get a SATA one. You can get one for under $100.

If you buy a smaller SSD and a larger HDD, you're going to spend about the same.

Just get the 1TB, then add an HDD when you get more money if you need it.

NVME doesn't have a huge performance in terms of gaming over SATA. Especially for someone on a budget.

Sry, I was thinking small SATA SSDs, because even I don't recommend them. I forgot he was talking about a small M.2 and a large HDD.

Yeah what is the difference between a SATA M.2 and a NVME M.2, other than Sata lanes and PCIe lanes. Is it the same sort of chiplets and controllers, just that one is configured to use the slower SATA lanes to their fullest potential, and the NVMe drive is stupid fast and uses a 2 or 4 PCIe lane?
