Can you install windows on the ram?

SwegWasp

Im just asking since some systems have up to terabytes of ram. Is it possible to install windows and other software on the ram? and what would happen?

RAM drives are a thing, but RAM is "volatile", meaning that when the computer is powered-off the data in the RAM is wiped.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

There is some specialised hardware, but it'll be very hard to find any. But Good Luck!

A guy asking and answering in his bedroom since he has nothing else to do

I wonder if you could use an m.2 for ram instead, and I think Linus had a video about it

Back in the day you could get "ram cards" that were basically pci cards with ram slots. Since m.2 is just Pci-e in a different form factor, it's theoretically possible. But... Those old pci cards went extinct for a reason. Slow. The latency introduced was not good for performance.
