Do I really need an X570?

Hi all! 
I’ve just bought the following:

ryzen 7 3700x

2070 super

32GB 3600 CL16 2*16

650W PSU

1 TB NVME

And, a MSI Gaming Plus X570 mobo for $155. 
 

with that being said, I’m second guessing whether I really needed the X570 and I feel like the guy at micro center may have up sold me a bit. I had originally planned on getting a b450 tomahawk Max for $115. Is the X570 a good choice/necessary or should I have gone with the b450. Please be specific as to why in your response, thank you!

It’s not required but definitely better that you did go it’s x570. X570 comes with better/more features than b450.

its actually a downgrade in terms of power delivery. if b550 was out that is a better buy

what PSU did you get?

I went with the CORSAIR TX-M Series TX650M. Why do you ask?

I know! Gosh, I wish I could buy the b550! Unfortunately it’s a gift and needs to be ready in a few weeks. Thanks for the input!

okay a good unit. cus sometimes people spend 1k+ on a system and buy a 30$ PSU that sucks

Very true my man. I know it’s not the highest end but it’s decent. If you PSU blows your have the potential to wreck a good portion of your system and I’m not trying do that after spending $1300 lol

What makes you think it's a downgrade?

It's a B board, not an X board, it's lower end.

B550 is a option when it come, many B450 boards thermal throttle with a 3700X... (ofc some are better than others)

If you find one of the better rated B450 boards you can safely go for it, tough you want a 500 series board for future Zen offerings maybe?

I guess I’ll just stick with the X570, it’s only $40 more. Is the MSI X570 gaming plus a decent board does anyone know?

The OP literally said that list is just for VRM thermals...not anything about overclocking.

And just because thermals are a few degrees hotter doesn't mean it's bad power delivery.

 

So really if you are doing extreme overclocking you should be looking at more in depth reviews from gamersnexus or tomshardware or something else, not an arbirary "motehrboard tier" list.

And if he's not doing extreme overclocking, literally any X570 motherboard will work fine.

 

B550 is a lower end cheaper platform with fewer features and IO, which is why it is called B550 and not X570.
