My First Ever PC

AshurC

Hey guys just wanted to show my value gaming PC, this being the first PC I personally bought/owned I am pretty proud of it (though i know its nothing special). Also wanted to show just how expensive computer parts are in Australia compared to North America.

Inside is:

-Intel i3-4130 $175

-Asrock H87 Fatal1ty $145

-Crucial DDR3 1600 8gb $99

-Samsung 840 evo SSD 120gb $139

-Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4gb $599

-Coolermaster 750W GX2 $129

-Tsunami SC-01 Case $39

-Deep Cool XFan 120mm x3 $30

-Total $1335 - $55 = $1280

Basically what I was going for to being with was just basic components for a low as possible price, with a without compromise GPU. I was also aiming for a certain degree of upgradability for when i get a little more money, without having to replace expensive components.

Side note, I'll be moving to a bigger case soon and hopefully running a custom water cooling loop because it get pretty damn hot here in Australia and the reference cooler on the 290 just isn't cutting it.

aye looks good but..

That mobo is so expensive, better off getting a more expensive CPU on a cheaper bord. It may bottleneck the 290.

Im not too much of a fan with the case and i think you would have been fine with a 600w psu, instead of getting fans you could have got a better case. Just some feedback but overall its a pretty solid build, people seem to under estimate the ferocity of the i3. And btw dont push it, this is by no means a budget build. My build for example costs around £650-£700 and that took me around 3 years to amass.

cpu bottlenecks will not matter if mantle goes well and as i said above getting an i5 would cause the gpu to go down in power dramatically.

Let me be the first to tell you a i3+ 290 will completely shit on a i5(4.5ghz)+ 270x period. i3s arent too powerful but its not a massive bottleneck.

But then later down the line 270x is easier to upgrade and i3 will fall off.

if you're a gamer that's the dumber choice.

Also a friend of mine has an i3 (1st GEN i3 530 with a stock speed of 2.9 GHz though it's overclocked to 3.5) and he runs anything my i5 runs just fine with my GPU in his rig. Most games aren't too CPU dependant and rely more on the GPU.

I'll suss out some Benchmarks for stock speed R9 290's and see what I've been getting becauise so far it seems like it hasn't been affecting performance, also in the future i plan on throwing in an unlocked i5 and liquid cooling. But i didn't want to have to upgrade my gpu.

Im not too much of a fan with the case and i think you would have been fine with a 600w psu, instead of getting fans you could have got a better case. Well considering 700 euros is around 1100 AUD I didn't do that bad, and the 750W PSU was me getting ripped by the salesperson i guess, he kept assuring me I'd need at least a 750W for the 290

either that or an i5 with a r9 270x, think about that for a second, what would you get.

Exactly what i was thinking, upgrading to an i5 later is cheaper than upgrading the GPU.

and later down the line mantle and other apis will be more gpu dependant then cpus as a result bottlenecking will be a thing of the past, mantle may fail and that is possible but it has already inspired others and im sure nvidia are working on something similar and maybe microsoft.

Believe me that was me trying really hard aha, this case has little to no cable management options and i thought about throwing in some cable ties but i figured it didn't have a window so i would wait for the next case to do some tidy cable management

nothing wrong not having cable management if the case is closed. also cable management (here comes the hate on me again) is actually more prone to short things out than cables all over the place but not grouped up and folded all over.

D-Comp in Liverpool, I had a look on ebay and the non-reference cards were running around $610 versus $600 for reference plus I figured the blower style would be better for the smaller case (or so I've been led to believe from linus' video's). That is of course if this qualifies as a small case :S

Looks a bit overkill with the gpu there.

And how come all the parts are better than me except for the cpu? You should balance it a little.

I figured I would upgrade the CPU when i had money to liquid cool, which would involve a new case and rads fans etc, so i got a cheap(ish) i3 while i save for all that.

Fair enough, if you're happy with it then it shouldn't be a huge issue

Cable management could also improve air flow though by quiet a bit, when I've build my pc and set it up I didn't bother at all with the cable management but when I was about to add the finishing touches (the magic touches) I chose to neaten up the cables and got around 5C less

i did make sure that non of the cable's were blocking the fans, i guess the pics didn't really show i but there's a fan at the front bottom and two in the side panel.
