Thoughts: The sharpness is probably awful like that of the the kick-proof TV from Linus' video, but this would make a pretty good secondary computer monitor. There is also the issue that ChangHong had financial issues for years, so actual delivery may be an issue (as of this post it's listed as sold out on jd.com).

Specs: Motherboard: Asus X470-PLUS TUF gaming (Yes I know it's poor but I wasn't informed) RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® LPX DDR4 3200Mhz CL16-18-18-36 2x8GB

It will probably last 5 months, and your house will catch fire :P

Typically, you don't want to buy a Chinese-market model of a TV (the same can be said of some Korean market devices) because there is no foreign support for it. Buyer beware, and especially beware of deals too good to be true, because they always are. These could be "defective/rejected" panels of another well known TV brand for all you know.

When ordering something that you know is a chinese-market item, make sure that the intermediary is willing to let you return it if you don't like it, a red flag that the item is a scam if there is no ability to return and refund it.

Sure, if you like your computer monitors way too large, not responsive at all and want to run at like 15Hz or a non-native lower resolution.

The Chinese economic system is driven not by profit, but on providing employment to the masses. Oversubsidizing industries so they can exist even under what would normally be cash incinerating operations, then dumping the excess product abroad (there's only so many ghost cities you can build domestically).

You kind of lost me there :P this is gigantic for something that sits on your desk and the input lag is probably not great. This would make for a good cheap TV if anything.

If you take out R&D costs from possibly being """inspired""" by competitor designs, customs fees from western countries, fair wages for workers, advertisement costs, mass production setup costs (if they're sold out I'm guessing they aren't making a lot) and the early adopter markup then maybe it is.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I don't think it's fair to generalize like that. There's plenty of Korean monitors meant for the internal market that have a track record of offering great features and bang for the buck.

Isn't Samsung Korean? Lol. Asian monitors/TVs tend to be fine. Just gotta do your research.

The problem is a lot of foreign-market models often have feature sets that don't work outside their home country.

When it comes to certain countries (eg mainland china) there's the potential for spyware. We know Samsung was notorious about spyware and ads in their SmartTV's.

Oversharing by design. Race through your TV’s setup, agreeing to everything, and a constant stream of viewing data will be collected through automatic content recognition. The technology identifies every show you play on the TV—including cable, over-the-air broadcasts, streaming services, and even DVDs and Blu-ray discs—and sends the data to the TV maker or one of its business partners, or both.

That doesn't mean US models don't have it, just that US models will get the manufacturer in trouble if they don't follow US Privacy regulations. A foreign model does not.

Another example of this problem is how many SmartTV's for the US market are also used in Canada, despite none of the services being available in Canada, and the Tuner (that you're paying for) also doesn't work in Canada because cablecard was never a thing here.

Hence, make sure any import model can be returned if you don't like it, or it doesn't work. If the menu has no way of being switched to English, you're stuck.
