Still on 14nm (But better) - Rocket lake - S to come with PCIe 4.0

williamcll

cool PCIE gen 4, USB 4/thunderbolt onbaord (only be good if I can feed by D-gpu to it) still not going to have the core count or efficiency.

I'm getting ready for FX9590 jokes but this time is intel.

I kinda expect this to come back but ryzen maybe too good.

Weren't Intel claiming PCIe 4.0 is usless a few months ago? Guess they're still in panic mode.

For current consumer hardware, that's still a very true statement. However, Intel likely understands that consumers often shop based on which number is the biggest, and if their competitor is offering PCIe 4.0 while they are still offering PCIe 3.0, that may be enough to sway a potential sale. We see it all the time on this forum when people are asking "AMD vs Intel" before they buy platforms, and all of them always ask if they need PCIe 4.0 for "future proofing".

This "bigger number = better" mindset is entirely behind AMD's decision to confuse the entire consumer market segment with their chipset naming. Intel had Z270, AMD launched X370. Intel launched Z370, AMD launched X470. Nothing was more confusing for consumers than Intel's X299 vs AMD's X399, however I am sure it paid off even for the enthusiast segments because there are still people that exist that shop entirely based on bigger numbers = better.
