wierd screw on define r6

Windows95

i was about to finally mount the mobo on the case but im confused: the r6 comes with 8 standoffs where you can screw in the mobo, BUT in the middle there is one were you can't screw anything... what should I do?

r666666.png

see pic circled in red

this black thing sticks out, i cant screw anything there. im worried it will touch the mobo and short it

btw all of my standoffs are black, cant find any pic where they are all black

anyway, what do i do? i replace it with a regular standoff so i can screw there too?

It's probably there to help you line up the mobo in the case, if it's not shorting something then don't worry about it.

how do I know if its not shorting something?

ive got an aorus x570 pro, let us look at the screw holes:

s it looks like it has all 8 holes... why not remove that thing and just put a regular standoff and screw it there too??

yes, and my question is, why not add a regular standoff and screw that one too?

This is usually called a 'post' and is a feature every case should have IMO.

It's a way so you can place the motherboard in your case and not have to worry about aligning it perfectly with all the other standoffs.

Leave it as is and just screw in all the other standoff screws

Does that black thing poke through the hole of the Motherboard? If so it could be a guiding standoff to help align the motherboard with the other standoffs. Without one a motherboard can slide around a bit before you can screw it in

the holes in your motherboard are actually grounded, using the standsoffs (or this post) on your case, so metal is supposed to touch metal there.

that is why you place metal screws into the other holes as well.

As said, it's a guidepost of sorts. It's perfectly fine and not going to short anything out.   As said above, it's something all case makers should do IMO.

and now im confused what screw type im supposed to use. the manual is confusing because it tells you to use a type of screw that is not the typical screw with a surrounding flat thing that typically ive used in all builds across the years

typically i used the "x32" one for mobos, but here it says is the one that has "x15", and in real life it doesnt look like that, one of the lines goes across theentire screw

anyway, i assume that is the one, but im trying to put them, and the one in the upper right corner is making some scratchy sound that is worrying me, im not sure if its normal

x32 is definitely a 2.5" drive screw.

x15 is the screws for the motherboard

Use whatever screw fits the threaded posts.

I don't even think I used the included screws in mine, just reached in my little box of 25 years worth of PC screws and rocked it.

Don't overthink.

but the one at the upper right corner wouldnt fit for some reason.... it doesnt align

also, im usign one of those screwdrivers that has a magnet and the screws become attached so its easier to remove and put them, i just realized if this would be bad to use on a mobo

Contrary  to popular belief, magnets that small don't immediately kill PC parts.  You're fine.  Magnetic screwdrivers are a good thing to have when building PCs.  Those little screws are a bitch when not using one at times.

can't help you with the upper right corner, wiggle around a bit, should work fine.

What screws are you looking for? Motherboard screws are the x15 ones

yeah, thing is, they made a design variation, the line in the middle is longer to allow for bigger screwdrivers i guess so i was confused

anyway, its all good now, the damn screw at the corner was the random screw that refuse to get in but eventually it aligned

im gonna continue tomorrow, just gotta put psu and cable management then install windows 10 (unfortunately)

cheers
