Is a Q6600 and a GT610 still acceptable for gaming?

I don't think going underwater would be economical, considering the price of the components these days. Heck, my case doesn't even support dual 120mm rads, only external or a single 120mm fan.

I guess you could either try a CM eisberg, or you could go with an NH-D14

Q6600 is 65nm

I thought it was 45nm, because it was the latest C2Q generation, Kentsfield.

CM Eisberg is 240mm. I explicitly stated that it wouldn't fit a 240mm rad.

but it's not cheap,

I would recommend the Water 3.0 Pro instead

Holy shit. I didn't know it was 65nm, but really shocked me was the TDP. 105W? That seems kinda high for a C2Q. Speedfan finds it at only 100F. My laptop has an i3 with a TDP of 35W and hits 190F.

The TDP isn't that crazy. My 6350 is 125W. The 65nm means you can put insane amounts of voltage through it without damage. 1.6v is doable with a Q6600 for a few years, 1.6v would kill a Haswell chip in a day

I would say 1.45v is a good 24/7 number if you plan to use it for another 5 years, other wise 1.55v is no problem

Seems fine. I think 1.55V is reasonable, since I don't run my PC 24/7.

The others don't know anything about LGA775, they are probably just reading over the comments and then they'll suggest a 4670K. Just an FYI but 1.55v is going to run a little warm, probably similar heat output to an overclocked FX 8350.

160F would be a safe temp.

I play with a GT520, and I get decent performance at 900p

 

Depends on the games you play. I don't play AAA titles, mostly indie games that don't require tons of processing power.

I used to game on 900p with my 520. It actually wasn't bad aside from bf3

I play Civ 4 and 5, Ace of Spades, Age of Empires, The LEGO games, and 7 days to die. None of which are terribly demanding.

 

Eventually I will be getting a high end GPU, but right now I'm on a Q8200 build. Old as all hell and not very fast compared to modern CPUs.
