Is a Q6600 and a GT610 still acceptable for gaming?

Yeah, but for some damn stupid reason, NVidia prices their cards ridiculously high. I mean, a 780Ti competes with a R9 290X, but the 780Ti is about 200 bucks more.

The r7 is AMD's low end line. What is the budget you are allocating for the upgrade? With that, I'm sure people would be able to find you the best card for that price.

lol well if you are a AMD Fanboy just get the R7 265 as it is a good card (the source i checked earlier made it seem far worse than the 270). It's relation to the R9 270 reminds me of my 5750's relation with the 5770.

Your motherboard isn't that great, but it's not awful. There are many other boards out there that blow your n680i out of the water. The intel P45 and X48 and the Nvidia 780i and 790i are THE best chipsets to have.

X48 came around pretty late in the LGA775 epoch (Q1 2008 according to ARK) and

not too many boards with it ever made it to market, hence why it's not very well

known I think. I didn't know about X48 until I came across it while researching

something about X58, which came at the end of the same year.

EDIT: Just noticed, apparently Asus' original Rampage Extreme was

an X48 board.

If you have a PSU with decent power, might wanna consider looking for used cards. I got a 560Ti off my local classifieds for $80.
