Why are 2080 Tis so darned expensive?

There isn't a competitor to the 2080 Ti, so Nvidia can maintain a high margin on those cards.

2080Ti is by far the fastest gaming gpu on the market. Which is why they charge so much. It's the only GPU capable of 4K 60 ultra in pretty much every game.

Fastest gpu on the market and behind RTX Titan by 3 to 5 fps and over $1.5k cheaper and it is NVIDIA.

Die and PCB/SMD cost is probably around 400 dollars, overall i would say that 50% of the GPU is just pure income for nvidia.

Radeon 7 doesn't really compare, considering the 1080Ti is faster than it.

What about R&D? That costs money too to research and develop technology and architecture for a new card.

Turing has a large die (i don't expect this to last) because of DXR, someone on reddit estimated that the cards do take around 450usd to make, excluding R&D per unit.

 

The partners are probably paying 800-900usd for each card which is why the cheapest i've seen a 2080 ti to date has been 975usd, any premium models are marked up 200usd+ to make up for sitting inventory. It's brutal on the partners too.

 

Once better DXR implementation hits the market they might be able to shrink it considerably, improve margins and maybe prices will...stay the same for next gen.
