What's the price range for affordable? 

 

Really any machine will do, depending on the type of development you plan on doing

Paper work machines need sufficient SSD and RAM capacity (imo 500GB and 16GB respectively), also enough USB ports, sufficient battery life and decent keyboard (unless you use an external one). Mind define your standards?

I'm always going to recommend the Matebook x pro. For $1299 it is a steal and the aspect ratio and res makes programming on it nice. With an undervolt and repaste I easily get through all day without needing a charge using IntelliJ, CLion, VIM, and a shit load of brave tabs

Really depends on what you want to program and what you're going to be doing. For example if you want to make an iOS app, you need a Mac, if you want to make C++ program you're better off with a Windows machine. Python? macOS....etc. 

 

Also would need something more concrete than just "affordable" to make any recommendations.
