2020 iPhone SE..

zrmaxwell

In 2020, Apple is rumored to update the 4 year old iPhone SE. I don't give a f*ck if the design is like the iphone 7, 8 or even the original iPhone 5s. I am honestly excited to own a smaller phone next year. I do not know if a headphone jack will be included in the phone.. But if they don't, i will get over it. My iPhone 6 plus battery is pretty bad (I cannot get the battery replaced because it will not be worth it in the long run). My point is this, with flagship phones getting more expensive, will an actual "budget" iphone in 2020 be enough to bring Apple back up to the top? Because let's face it. Smartphones are expensive, boring, and are getting too big for some people.. Yeah a 4 inch or 4.7 inch 2020 phone won't have the biggest and best battery, but i personally do not care.. I can't wait to get my hands on it..

Are you interested in the 2020 next generation iPhone SE? Or will you stick to flagship phones?

Nope, will stick to my 2017 Nokia 8 because nothing new would change anything to me.

What makes you think Apple isn't on the top right now? June was their best June quarter ever.

Seeing as the new iPhone SE is based on the iPhone 8, I really have no interest in it at all. The huge bezels do not appeal to me.

Phones probably just aren't your thing. There's been lots of interesting advancements, and even more will come next year:

  • 50w fast charging, 30w wireless charging, with even higher rates on the horizon.
  • Under display finger print readers
  • Under display cameras
  • High refresh displays

I might consider getting an iPhone for the first time next year, depending on what they do with the refreshed design.

It's cool that apple will set a trend again for phone to be smaller. Maybe some other neat small phones (more flagship like devices) will come around in the near future because of it. I was really happy with my og google pixel before it got smashed and am now using a lg g5 and I'm more than happy with it.

All of those things you said will make the price tag of phones way too high for me. I can't afford to spend 800 to 1000+ dollars on a phone just to get the latest and greatest features. The reason i am getting the iPhone se 2 is not because of the size, it is because of the price..

Aye, but they're advancements nonetheless. There's lots going on in the mobile sector.

Phones like the OnePlus 7 are quite affordable. You can get them for less than $400. They have under display fingerprint readers, fast charging, etc.

@dizmo But can you get it brand new for $400 or less? Probably not.. Also, the 5 years of software updates is another reason why i am getting a 2019 iPhone SE. Something you can't get with a oneplus phone, or any android phone actually..

Yes. You can.

I don't care about the software updates so it's not a consideration for me *shrug*

I don't see it as a huge issue. You're better off selling the device every 2 years anyway, do recoup the most amount of money out of it.

Older than that and the return is quite low.

Some people are forced to to keep stuff for longer than 2 years due to finances and can't afford to upgrade every two years..

The cost is about the same, just spread over a different period of time.

I really hope for an iPhone 5s-esque design, headphone jack and all, but with better hardware. I'd get one gladly.

Don't think that's happening.  I suspect part of it is that all the features Apple wants (and many users expect) would have trouble fitting in a phone that size, especially with the added thermal/power demands of newer processors.  A modernized iPhone 8 might be as good as it gets for now, although I could see Apple making a smaller all-screen design at some point.  I believe the rumors for the 2020 iPhones have the high-end model splitting in to 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch designs... and a 5.4-inch phone with a modern design could be fairly small.
