More and more UBER drivers take longer routes to charge people more

Did you guys experience this  driive around scam? Recently they drove me twice to my destinaton and at the end of ride I was charged twice more than what I supposed to. Every time they do it I report immediately and get my money back so what benefit is there for them to do it? Trying to catch people that wont notice? One time I requested uber for family member that had difficult situation and wanted him ASAP to my place and one moron from uber took him for 55mins ride instead 25!! Its not only about money but time that I need to spend inside to get to my destination.

 

Situation from today. Red arrow shows where I was heading and what I agreed for. $29 and 15-20 min ride. Green arrow shows where he drove. Over 40min ride and $97 bill.

What is great about uber, you will get your refund within minutes once they see what i agreed for and where driver drove. But still, waste of time.

Did you talk to the driver and ask him about the route?

 

What if there was some accident on that bridge between whitestone and throgs nest or near by causing a choke point or something, making you waste time?

 

I often get taxis here and drivers ask me if I'm ok going a route that's a few km/miles longer because there's traffic and if I'm unlucky I may be stuck at semaphores for half an hour or more on the regular route, catching red lights one after another.

There was no accident. And I am telling you I had 2 around rides just recently. Overall 6 or more. I did ask him and he started to argue that he knows where to drive etc. I said whatever. I will report you at the end of ride and get my money back because I know you drive around to charge me more. He was quiet for the rest of a ride.

They take advantage that uber allows to charge more. Believe me, I live here and I know highways, traffic-rush hours etc. If I wasn't right, they wouldn't refund me. Driver could defent himself but hes not right choosing different direction without any agreement.

But you still didn't answer my question... were you sleeping during the trip or were you so shy that you couldn't ask WHY they're taking you that route?

In the example picture above, were there no points where the guy could turn around and drive you the proper route, if you asked him/her to?

 

Argument could be made YOU are scamming the uber driver, by only requesting refund or complaining after trip is done... you get the ride and pay nothing.

that's absolutely not how that works.  you would be surprised how many times a refund is offered just to get a customer to stop complaining, right or wrong.

I noticed around Astoria and asked him why is he taking me around instead of whitestone bridge. At this point I was pissed because it was not first time that I experienced it and I knew what he is doing. He said he is a driver and he knows what he is doing. I said I know I will be charged more at the end of a ride so I will report you after you drop me off. He stayed quiet for the rest of  a ride.

 

Look at this genius. First, he was driving around after he picked me up and I noticed it very quickly that  we are going to Brooklyn. I asked him and he said GPS showed him this route. Total bulls***. It was my first  ever ride through Manhattan to the Bronx. Instead of $26 and 30 min ride it was 1h and 112$ bill.

ANy uber drivers that are not afraid to talk about it? Is it common?  Once we report and demand refund is it taken away from your account? Can you report customer? Can you defend yourself? Or are this routes taken because once you go around, you will keep this extra money even though someone will complain about it.

Situation from today. Red arrow shows where I was heading and what I agreed for. $29 and 15-20 min ride. Green arrow shows where he drove. Over 40min ride and $97 bill.

As a Uber driver I hope you raised hell for what he did. Man i hate when people do that i do my best to get you to your location to get me more rides.

Look at this genius. First, he was driving around after he picked me up and I noticed it very quickly that  we are going to Brooklyn. I asked him and he said GPS showed him this route. Total bulls***. It was my first  ever ride through Manhattan to the Bronx. Instead of $26 and 30 min ride it was 1h and 112$ bill.

ANy uber drivers that are not afraid to talk about it? Is it common?  Once we report and demand refund is it taken away from your account? Can you report customer? Can you defend yourself? Or are this routes taken because once you go around, you will keep this extra money even though someone will complain about it.

If you are issued a refund we lose the money from our account. sometimes it the app telling us where to go depending on what direction we are facing. that is why i look at the map before i drive off cause i don't want to drive around is a big circle for what $2 more that is just stupid. i can report customers and have them blocked from my car i have done this multiply time for fear for my life as a woman doing this i get a lot of crap from people. and no you don't get to keep the extra money. if you have any questions just ask me.

They take advantage that uber allows to charge more. Believe me, I live here and I know highways, traffic-rush hours etc. If I wasn't right, they wouldn't refund me. Driver could defent himself but hes not right choosing different direction without any agreement.

Dude i agree with you completely. I have riders who give directions all the time because you know a faster way to get you to your destination then i might know or the app. just to let you know you can contact uber and request that you never get that driver again. before i started driving for uber their was this driver in my area that it took more then 30 mins to get to my house when it took me less than 10 mins from the same location. at 6 to 7 am i though maybe there was traffic. then i got a different driver same time that start at same location it took him 10 mins to get to my house to pick me up. i got the first driver two more times and that jerk took 30 mins again both times and i watched as he didnt move for 20 mins almost missed my final at school. I raised hell at with uber over it and now i do not get him as a driver any more. not all uber drivers a dirt bags. and also so uber drivers use to be taxi drivers
